No declination adjustment!

Does not allow tilt adjustment. It looks like it but the whole frame is solid so it's not good. If you want/need to adjust your compass for declination, I suggest you go ahead. It's also built fairly cheaply. The bezel isn't tight against the compass, there's enough wiggle room. Not really enough to ruin your reading but still feels cheap. I think it's because it is. I'll return it and drop a few more bucks to get something working.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Out of fashion

I can't say enough good things about this compass

The bracelet is very comfortable. I can't say enough good things about this compass. If you need something that does more than just tell you which way north is, I can't recommend it highly enough. This compass is primarily intended for drawing routes on a map, but it can do a lot more. It compensates for magnetic declination, has a built-in magnifier, map drawing templates, and more. If you're looking for an easy-to-use compass that does more than just point north, then this is for you.

To be too good to be true.

Sorry but thought this would be a great little addition, a map compass to toss in your bag or give to a fellow traveler. For money, what can go wrong, right? When I unpacked the compass, I immediately noticed that the needle was "stuck" inside the compass case, rendering it completely unusable. I tapped the compass gently and shook it to loosen the needle. useless. I returned it as defective for a refund. Choose Suunto or Silva. It's only a few dollars more and I've never had a problem with a…

Good learning tool: electronics and gadgets

This is a fairly inexpensive compass and therefore does not have features such as declination adjustment. I use it to teach boy scouts how to read a map and how to use a compass. It's a good compass for the price, but the build quality is closely related to the price. The bezel isn't as firm as we'd like, this affects accuracy. All in all, not a bad compass, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. It's fine to toss the bag as a backup or as a training tool, but if you're planning on orienteering…

Don't point north!

I've received a couple of emails from Reliable Outdoor Gear asking me to verify my purchase before I receive what I ordered. Now I have my purchase. Here is my review. Bought a compass. What the compass is supposed to do, this purchase doesn't! I figured it would be an inexpensive option. I was wrong. It s cheap. I got what I paid for. I took the compass out of the box and tried to find north and depending on which direction I was facing it determined where the arrow was pointing. It will never

Very good for the price

As a former surveyor I am well aware of the parameters of a compass of this size and configuration. This is a very good copy of the Brunton design which makes a quality product and I have used it in the field for many years. However, compasses of this size cannot be used for actual shooting, but rather for general orientation in deep forest or in the desert on cloudy days or in low light. In situations like this, they're great for getting through the bushes because, at least here in Oregon…

Declination cannot be adjusted, so topographic maps cannot be navigated.

Declination is when you set your compass to magnetic north. You need to be able to set this to get accurate readings when navigating a topographic map. I did my best to try to adjust the internal dial to set the declination, but I couldn't. It has all the markings needed for declination, but it just can't be adjusted. To be fair, it doesn't list the adjustable declination as a function (although it does have all the declination-related markings). All other features of this compass worked fine…

The markings can be deleted - Accessories for sports and outdoor activities

Pros: * Slightly cheaper than a trusted brand * Nordic dots Cons: * Marking fades and becomes unreadable * Feels cheap, looks like it's about to break any minute I got this as a Christmas present for my daughter last year . I wanted to give her something high quality that would last, not cheap junk. Buying expensive branded items can be successful or unsuccessful. Sometimes it's worth paying more for a trusted brand, and sometimes a cheaper competitor is just as good or better. I took a chance…
