OK, but you have to work.

I bought this expecting better results than the factory sharpener. The problem is that the workmanship is not very high quality and therefore the cutting edge is not perpendicular to the sides of the tool being sharpened. If you apply even moderate pressure to the blade, there will be significant deflection. Once the blade you're sharpening is fixed, the deflection is pretty bad. Another problem is that it is somewhat unstable. I've found that I often feel like the circle is fully registered on

Convenient but difficult to be precise. Roller Sticks

I bought one of these about 2 years ago and only use it occasionally and it's a handy tool for the occasional carpenter to keep his chisels and planer knives sharp enough. A friend brought over a dozen chisels last week, and after working with a few I noticed the roller was binding and I was digging a flat spot on it. Great for planes, lousy for chisels - so mod it.

I bought this sharpening head a few years ago and finally had a chance to practice it. I mainly used it to create 30 degree micro bevels on chisels and planes. It works great for irons. I also like the little center wheel on the rail so I can rock it back and forth when sharpening curved flat bars. (I sharpened the curve in an iron to set the plane for quick material removal).
