Subpar sharpening tool, avoid.

This tool for sharpening is a disappointment. Although it is labeled as an industrial and scientific product, it fails to live up to expectations. The only positive is that it is affordable, but that does not make up for its inability to produce a precise sharpening. It is difficult to use and does not provide the desired results. I recommend seeking out a higher quality sharpening tool.

Pros
  • Efficiently sharpens thin knives
Cons
  • Requires a Tormek sharpening machine to use

A little fiddly, very strong

This attachment takes a little more practice to use properly than the plane iron attachment, but it still gives excellent results. Long knives lean on both sides of the stone and easily scratch the working edge. Make sure you have a pair of Rough Goodwill Knives to practice with. The learning curve is steep but short. You will be frustrated and then suddenly become a master. Hang in there, it will make you very happy.

Pros
  • Works the same as the SVM-45
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Feels cheap in hand tools

I also have an SVM-45 knife attachment and the build quality is terrible. It holds the knives, but the knives holding the edges of the mount are of different thicknesses. It looks like cast and polished aluminum or maybe tin. The SVM-45 is much better in build quality. I'm giving it two stars because it works, but I don't think I got my money's worth as I did with the SVM-45. You get what you pay for but I didn't do that with this product. This product would be worth it at half the price…

Pros
  • Adjustable clamp and stop
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
