Description of SMAKN® Waterproof Coupler Shielded Installable(

Shielded RJ45 female to female field installable coupler, simply plug a patch cord into either end and screw together. Gasket seals provide IP68 rated water and dust protection. CAT5/5e/6/6a shielded cable (not included) with a 6mm-7mm O.D. is required for waterproofing. 1" - 20 UNEF (Unified Extra Fine Thread) outer threading (nut and gasket seal not included for panel mounting). For harsh industrial or outdoor environments.

Not shielded but appears to be waterproof

Although the description says 'shielded' there is definitely no visible or measurable shield connection between the two sides. To test, I connected two Category 5e shielded patch cords and measured the lack of continuity between their shields. To test for water resistance, I crimped a 2-foot piece of Category 5e Direct Burial cable, spliced the ends to that piece, and submerged it in water for two days. a bucket of water. No water running! It's garbage!

later I've had this buried about 5 inches deep on straight Cat6 wire that runs under the road across the street for about 1.5 years. About 1 month ago I started seeing delays of about 50ms when crossing the street, then I finally dug up this plug to test it and sure enough when I opened it there was a ton of water in it. Great product that works for me

Great product! Some written instructions would be nice (I didn't have any), because it's not at all apparent how the connector can be used in a "field installation" without cutting and re-crimping the lugs. In fact, the rubbery pads are removable from the sleeve and are (discreetly) slotted so they can be opened and wrapped around the cables.
