At first I thought a hard smooth surface would be perfect for what I was going to use it for as the foam won't chip. But I was wrong. I made decorated pinecones for Christmas by cutting cardboard into 1 inch squares, folding them properly and pinning them to the egg shape. But the eggs were so hard that the pins bent rather than got stuck in the styrofoam. the ones that came in were crooked and it really hurt my fingers.
