If you don't like black and white programming, don't bother buying this product. I have a Sony DVD/VCR combo from 2001, before the USB era, that only has RCA inputs, so I decided to give this unit a try. When I connected the yellow-red-white cable to my Sony device and then connected the USB output of the cable box to the input of this device, the only picture quality I got was B&W WITH NO COLOR!

Converts HDMI signal to S-cable signal in correct format. When the picture is rescaled (from that S-cable signal back to HDMI) it looks pretty good. To be honest I was surprised how well it works. The aspect ratios and aspect ratios are absolutely correct. Strangely, the still images look a little blurry (but I don't care), but the moving images look almost as good as the originals. Translating audio from HDMI to stereo RCA is also solid and reliable. Good product at an affordable price!

This was done to replace an HDMI to S-Video converter that burned out after a few years. After about 5 minutes, the sound of what I observed was replaced by a high-pitched screech. I am using an S-Video connection and have found that the screen is much better than a component connection. I only gave 4 stars for "easy to install" because I had to play around with a few to finally get the end result I wanted. I bought this to connect a Chromebook or spare laptop to an old CRT TV so we can watch Netflix on it. I was able to connect my Chromebook to my TV with RCA cables and setup my dual monitor settings to play Netflix on the TV. I could do the same with an old (Win7) laptop.
