## What is CoinPayments

CoinPayments is a crypto payment processor for businesses. Merchants accept cryptocurrency and stablecoin payments, hold balances in a custodial wallet on the platform, convert them and withdraw them to external wallets or bank accounts. It also offers a separate non-custodial product, DepiPay.

## Who holds the keys

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Key control | Custodial: the platform holds the funds received by merchants. |
| Custody provider | The custodial wallet services are provided by PaidInSatoshi Inc., Centauri Pay LLC or their partners. |
| Segregation | Client assets are said to be kept apart from the company's operating capital. |
| Non-custodial option | DepiPay is a separate non-custodial payment product of the same company. |

## Features and supported networks

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Services | PaidInSatoshi acts as custodian wallet provider, accepts crypto payments for merchants, exchanges crypto, and exchanges crypto to fiat through partners. |
| Supported coins | The fee table lists 21 assets, including BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, SOL, BNB, XRP, TRX, DOGE, LTC, BCH and DASH; USDT is not offered in EU countries. |
| New and Legacy platforms | The new platform is a separate system that needs a new sign-up and KYC; the Legacy platform is still open for older accounts during the transition. |
| EU/EEA availability | No service to EU/EEA clients since 1 July 2026 because of MiCA; no date set for a return. |
| Restricted countries | Afghanistan, Belarus, Cuba, Haiti, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Myanmar, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Yemen; plus sanctioned persons. |

## Security incidents

Further incidents are reported by third parties (press, incident databases) but are not confirmed in the company’s own channels, so they are not listed here.

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2013 | Founded by Alex Alexandrov. |
| 2025 | Split into a new platform and a Legacy platform: accounts opened before 2025 stay on Legacy (launch date of the new platform not stated). |

| 21 November 2025 | Centauri Pay LLC registration received by FinCEN (MSB register). |
| 1 July 2026 | Service to EU/EEA clients stopped (MiCA). |

## Risks and caveats

- Custodial service: the platform, not the merchant, holds the funds received.
- No licence is named: Centauri Pay LLC (USA) says it is registered with FinCEN as a money services business and is still seeking state money transmission licences; FinCEN states that a listing is not an endorsement.
- Accounts with no transactions for 12 months are charged 5.5% of the balance for each 12 months of inactivity; logging in does not count as activity.
- Not available to EU/EEA clients since 1 July 2026 (MiCA) or in restricted countries such as Russia, Iran and North Korea.
- The new platform is a separate system with its own sign-up and KYC; funds and data are kept apart from the Legacy platform.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
