One of the few projects with a different and important real world use case. Get to know more about Substratum on their website, youtube, reddit or twitter.

Pros
  • Solving a real world problem, already in open beta stage. Communication of the team improved and is now the best I've seen in all of crypto.
Cons
  • As many projects, the product is being created - stay tuned.

Net-neutrality and user's privacy over the internet is becoming bigger and bigger concern. Substratum shows in a perferct place at a perfect time. We just need to wait and keep our fingers crossed that they will deliver. I think, it's worth waiting.

Pros
  • With nowadays technology we can accomplish distributed p2p network, where every user is treated equally and can access any address in the network. The biggest problem was hosting a node. Non-geeky person wouldn't host TOR because it is too hard to set up, net-traffic generated by TOR was easily distinguishable from other. Simply put, too much risk, too small reward. Substratum's guys found the way to solve this.In theirs scheme hosting a node will be easy as pie and will give you economical benefits, small reward as a SUB token for hosting. SUBnode traffic will look the same as regular net-traffic. Simply put, low risk, relatively big reward. You will be able to enter sites hosted on the network, and more interestingly, you will also be able to visit any site from regular Internet. Example : Human in China queries SUBnode for facebook.com, SUBnode in US queries facebook's server and conveys the data to user in China. Now people behind Great Firewall will be able to see forbidden sites, using regular Internet connection, without Firewall noticing with minimal human-effort and additional economical profit. Communication with team is clear, they are active in social-media. Beta testers started work, next version will be public. Also devs annouced open-sourcing code. They don't hurry and keep focus on delivering best possible product.
Cons
  • As for today, project is very ambitous, if we need to point out cons, that could be their current progress, marketing and not-open-source code. Current investor can only hope and believe in the team, that they will deliver. Just for today, we can't really see results of their work on our own machine. They don't put too much on marketing, but i think that will change after the release. It is hard to advertise sth that people can't see.

https://substratum.net/ First, we mine bitcoin because we want to. Then others mine bitcoin because they think they can get rich doing it. Now, Substratum removes the complex ( to some, like me for example) scripting / directory hunting and leaves the reward part intact. Being this project is not a Me Too concept, but rather a value add, I would be remiss to not dredge up a previous measuring stick - First Round Draft Pick. Until the morrow, beloveds. #ComeToDelaware

Pros
  • Taking the BOINC model of shared computing, but adding a reward for the computer use rather than the computer mining, brilliant! Not 3 days ago I created an account to run a machine to help SETI. It took more than 30 hours for my dinosaur box to process 8 hours worth of files. I am hopeful when I pilot Substratum later on tonight it will run a little better. The token system uses substrate and atoms with 2 decimal places each, to roughly equivalate out to dollars and cents. Even better than this, Substratum takes a long hard look down the sights at a nasty jerk called non-net neutrality and aims to ( see the pun there?) help ensure 1 - internet access to those currently being censored from it, 2 - paying more for fast lanes is not only not required, but not even useful. Decentralize everything in 2019, people.
Cons
  • Uhh, lack of diversity in the leadership team. Surely not an actual issue if the product works, but in 2018 you better have a Benneton ad look or some people will cry foul without knowing the game. My only real complaint is that I cannot find the DOWNLOAD ME button on their site. Apparently this is because we are still in BETA testing, which I have just applied to be part of. Either way, will review again in 6 months.
