great for fresh candles

My disposable butane lighter was empty and I decided to try one of these rechargeable electric lighters for a change. The packaging was decent, with a micro USB cable and a fairly good manual. Charging is via micro-USB on the side, directly above the on/off switch. It's more like a safe/armed switch, when you slide it up you see the battery indicator on the handle, it's a 3 segment charge indicator. After that, you can slide the silver button up, creating an arc between the two prongs at the end. If the arc is started for more than 10-15 seconds, it will turn off automatically, probably for safety reasons. Trying to light a candle is not too difficult. You only need to hold the wick in an arc for a second or two for it to ignite. It works fine on new ones, but can be a bit annoying on used ones. Unlike butane lighters, this high voltage spark gap has a much smaller "hot spot" which means you can run into trouble if you need to "melt" a partially submerged wick or find it difficult to keep it stable. The battery life is amazing, I've had it for a month so far and it's still 2/3 full even with overnight use. Compared to the cheap 4 packs of lighters I usually buy this thing is a lot more expensive but the range is great and the fact is I can "refill" it with USB to make up for it. Overall it's actually pretty decent, although it does take some practice and a steady hand to use.
