Amprobe NCV-1040 Non-Contact Voltage Sensor

First, mine doesn't detect magnetic fields. IDK the product is defective or not. I am returning the product due to a defect.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

The light is really cool!

It was well worth the money and the light is amazing. How many times have we ALL tried using a flashlight to feel the line? It's perfect and works perfectly.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons

Design flaws.: Tester

The white LED is not very good to see because it was 20 years old, but the red LED is so bright that it hurts your eyes when it blinks. I think the benefit is that the standby current draw is 21.6uA.

Pros
  • hands-free mode
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

A simple tool - even for non-extremists

I had one of the earlier models for years but it eventually stopped working so I settled on this one from the same manufacturer. It's very easy to use and comes in handy when you need to change electrical switches, for example, or find out if electricity is getting into something without electrocuting yourself. You can wave it over the power core and it will glow/beep without having to touch the exposed hot wire. I recommend it in every tool box!

Pros
  • High test scores for grip and durability
Cons
  • Lack of performance

Cheap and not UL listed

Haven't even used it yet it's not UL listed and it's made in China. I'm sure it works great, love the design, feels solid but looks cheap. My FLIR is also plastic, but I can't hear the batteries in my FLIR rattling like the Amprobe. I'm really disappointed with the quality. To be honest a tool like this can mean the difference between life and death if you need it and it seems so cheap that I don't think I would use it in the field, maybe at home.

Pros
  • Easy to set up
Cons
  • Reliable

Amprobe NCV-1040 Non-Contact Voltage Probe

I have purchased two Amprobe NCV-1040 testers and have been using them for a few months now. They work reliably and the dual voltage feature is handy when working with low voltage control transformers. The tester has a built in flashlight which is not as bright but I still find it useful in dark work areas. The tester has both a flashing red indicator light and an audible signal. The red LED flashes once per second for standard 50-1000 VAC mode and twice per second for 12-50 VAC low voltage…

Pros
  • A Sea of Positive Emotions
Cons
  • Quality
