Good but not accurate

This heater is compact compared to an adjustable heater. When heating up, it only turns on for a few minutes so that nothing burns through. The sizing is not correct at all. This is part of the problem with the preset. Although it should heat up to 78, it doesn't. 50w heats up to 74 and 100w heats up to 76. The tank is a 5 gallon Fluwal Chi. This is the reason for 4 stars. The heating itself is good, but does not heat as it should. The temperature in the aquarium is measured with a glass…

Aquarium heater not very good so far

Update: The heater was installed within 3 days and the temperature of my aquarium went up 1 degree to 75 F. Back. This 200 watt heater replaced one of my failed 100 watt Tetra heaters. For four days another working 100w tetra was struggling to keep my temp at 74 so I bought this 200w tetra to get the temp up. This heater turns on for about a minute and then off for about 5-10 minutes while my Tetra keeps running non-stop. About six hours after installing my temperature is still 74 F with an…

If you need a fire buy this heater

DO NOT buy unless you want to lose the whole tank! I bought this heater to use. Instead I kept it as a backup. I've only used it new out of the box a few times to heat water for a change. I was heating 5 gallons of salt water when I noticed a flickering lamp in my dining room. I turned it off Then I started smelling a strong odor of burnt plastic. The Aqueon heater shorted out and melted in my 5 gallon container that I was about to use for a water change. Luckily no one was injured and no…

Affordable and does the job!

This is amazing! I've had several of these for my 10 and 20 gallons. I have my tanks in my living room which can range from 55f to 100f depending on the time of year. The water temperature never deviates too far from the target temperature of 78-80f. The advice I could give to any newbie considering buying them is this: 1. Make sure it's below the lowest point of your water change line.2. Near a flow point, such as B. a sponge filter or a pump. This allows for better heat dissipation throughout

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • I don't like it, everything is fine

Basic cheap heater

I have a few of these from 50w to 200w. My only complaint is that they keep the water at 77 instead of 78 (tested with multiple thermometers and controller probes). But that's not so important. 77 is suitable for almost every type of tank. They heat water and keep it at a constant temperature. I use them in a reef tank and two freshwater tanks. I haven't had a single failure, but I keep them connected to temporary controllers in case they break. I've spent more money on other supposedly good…

Garbage! Doesn't work as described.

Bought 6 last month: 3 x 200w and 3 x 50w. The 50 watts were for 10 gallon tanks, they advertise that they can heat tanks up to 20 gallons. The 50w barely kept the tank at 73 degrees let alone the 78 it should be at. The red LED came on for less than 1 minute and then went off like it never got hot. The 200W is supposed to heat 75 gallons, but I can't even get the 55 gallons I need it to heat to 70 degrees. It turns off by itself, the LED is on, it stays on for less than a minute, it turns off,

People are stupid about aquarium heaters and coolers

After reading several reviews of heaters from different manufacturers I decided to buy this Aqueon 100 Watt for my BioCube32 salt water because the one I have had was so inaccurate. .Let's just say some of you reviewers are jerks! I read one saying the appliance wouldn't even turn on and still cooked his fish! Let me just say I opened the box. I put the heater in the tank for about 30 minutes before turning it on. I took my digital thermometer and it read 80.4 which I think is too warm for my…

Great value, take simple precautions

I bought two of these units to heat my reef aquarium. I don't have enough heater power, so if one of them fails, it won't overheat my system. I've consistently noticed over the past week that one runs a little more than the other which means the temperature calibration could be a BIT wrong as both tend to shut down at a few minute intervals. Overall, Aqueon heaters offer the best value for money. Of course, you can spend hundreds on higher rated heaters with 1/2 degree accuracy, but that's…
