Use for Plex on a Media Mac Mini

With a large library for Plex currently stored on the HP Mediasmart server, the Mac Mini worked great with the PC-based server. For some reason my Media Smart Server started with some problems. Not sure what the problem is, but no cable and Plex were my main source of entertainment and I needed the quickest fix I could get. In order to get media from HP to try and fix, I needed a hard drive anyway. , so I decided to create a disk farm on a Mac Mini and just go from there. Using USB 2.0 (it's a…

Additional Jacksons for "for Mac " number

This is identical to WD MyBook (for Windoze) and contains the non-removable WD SmartWare software for Mac. (Why not download the program instead of forcing the software on new owners?) For those of you who, like me, are outraged at this software getting stuck on your desktop, WD has posted an uninstaller on their website. Follow the instructions carefully and it will go away. You may need to perform a firmware update first. Anyway, this is my second WD drive. The first one I got for Time…

Cheap - not enough

What can I say, I don't like being a hater, but this hard drive lasted me less than 6 months, and whatever you may say, it stopped working. I did a diagnosis - no luck. Judging by the online forums I've visited, many people have encountered the same problem but with no solution. I only used the hard drive itself once a month for a simple hard drive backup. So frustrated I vowed never to buy a WD again. I'm just glad I didn't lose any important data - some priceless family video clips and family

great hard drive for mac users

I was originally planning to buy an Apple Time Capsule hard drive as we have 3 Macs and I try to only buy Apple branded accessories as they go well together . But according to research, many people don't like Time Capsule because it almost always dies after 18 months. (just after the warranty expired) So I looked for an alternative and found a Western Digital My Book for Mac which I ended up buying. The hard drive is small, quiet and doesn't feel cheap. As soon as I connected it to my Mac, a…

Firmware update blocks hard drive

update. Your amazing software strikes again and I can't use it as a network drive on a windows system either. I wanted to move this drive from my Mac to my router. To do this, I had to uninstall the pesky, ingrained software that WD had installed on the drive. To uninstall this software I had to update the firmware, then download custom uninstall software and follow their process (simple reformatting won't remove the crap). So I do a firmware update. The disk never works again. I tried going to

Quiet, fast and lots of space!

First off, I'm probably not the best person to write a review of anything electronic as most of what I know is pretty basic. However, I've been using this desktop hard drive for about 2 weeks now and haven't had any problems with it. It's so quiet you can't even hear it when it's on, and it only takes a few minutes to transfer large image files. I was also able to quickly and easily partition the HD by going into Disk Utility, reserving 500GB for Time Machine backups and the remaining 1.5TB for

I bought this drive from Revain to back up my iMac because I was upgrading from Mac OS 10.4 .eleven to Mac OS 10.6.3 have updated. First, I made a "clone" of my system and booted it to the WD hard drive, just in case. After downloading Mac OS 10.6.3, I uninstalled the Mac OS 10.4.11 "clone" and was able to partition the drive using Disk Utility in Mac OS 10.6.3. I did this to use WD backup software for 1 partition and Time Machine for 2 partitions and I made a bootable "clone" of my system with

So far this is a real winner.

Only used a few days; but so far this is a winner. I'm obsessed with backups; and I had a 3TB Hitachi drive and wanted to clone another one as a backup. I cloned Hitachi in MyBook. Of course, that took some time; but everything went smoothly. None of the drives overheated or did anything out of the ordinary during the 12 hour process. (It really wasn't that long ago that I had enough cloning space.) In fact, the MyBook worked so well that I decided to use it as my main desktop hard drive and…
