very bad reception/trnsmt

looks like a great product, the 3m band was great, the antenna looked good on the truck, but the reception with this antenna dropped drastically and the transmission is even worse. Anyway, I had to take it off and drill a hole to get my old magnetic base antenna into the cockpit.

Bad SWR, don't buy it!

Assemble the vehicle according to the instructions. Put an SWR meter on it, because it wasn't better than 3:1 at any frequency, no matter how far we turned the tuning screw. Yes we made sure the SWR meter is good and we tested it with another one and the results are the same. Also, the US VHF ham radio band will not be tuned out. Frequencies range from 144MHz to 148MHz, so it's useless to a radio amateur. Removing it was also a big pain. Apparently the only good thing here is the glue. Will ask

Ideal for lower power requirements.

Works great but be aware of limitations. If you can route the cable to the antenna, buy another antenna. Since there's no direct connection, you lose output power and incoming audio isn't as good as it could be. It's still better than the handheld and rubber ducky antennas, but if you want all the features and output of a radio, choose a different antenna. That being said, this antenna is well built and works great considering it's a through-the-glass antenna.

Overall I am happy with this purchase

Overall I am happy with this purchase. I had to search a lot to find out what to do with a small antenna. This is a terrestrial antenna, so it only needs to be mounted perpendicular to the main antenna (for those wondering the same). I also found that the 18ft cable was too long for my application, as others have pointed out. In any case, I decided to cut it to length and replaced the connector with SMA-F, so this wasn't a problem for me. Overall I think I cut about 3 feet in Toyota's extended…
