They are not durable, buy Maxxair blocks!

This unit will have a higher price tag but there are two Camco Vents 40431 and this 40433 that sell for a lot more. According to an email from Camco, both vents are exactly the same, although this one, 40433, looks like it has a screen and 40431 doesn't mention it. So save the money it cost me and buy 40431 and get the same item. (The 431 is sold by Camco in batches of 10 while the 433 is sold in batches of 5. They use different part numbers rather than the same part number with -10 or -5 at…

Easy installation, no drilling required.

Had to replace my vent window after it fell apart when only 2 years old. Ordered this and ordered to protect a new one. Installation was easy, no need to drill the roof at all, only 4 small mounting holes need to be drilled under the vent for the brackets and it stays watertight. The attachment system lets you know it's a tear-off system in case you hit a branch or whatever the vent cover comes off rather than damaging your RV, and it costs less than $30 compared to a roof repair. I actually…

Would buy them again

We bought three of these for the three vents on the roof of our van. Fitting and attaching to existing vents was easy following the included instructions. The included hardware allowed for different types of mounts on the different vents we had. One vent was a Maxaire fan with a thick plastic case. The other two vents were thinner metal frames. The included mounting screws worked for metal frames, while the included self-tapping screws worked well in plastic. The brackets were easy to position…

  • Pretty impressive

I used this (and similar ones) over my Fantastic Roof Fan on the last RVs I owned. I can't tell you how important it is to leave the roof vent open when you leave your rig - not knowing if it's going to rain while you're away. Especially if you like camping in the south west where it can be bumpy but suddenly it rains and you can be outside. We have a fantastic thermostatic fan that kicks in when our RV gets too hot and leave the roof vent wide open under one of these covers. Definitely should…

What's not to like?

What's not to like? Each install literally took 15-20 minutes (actually the first one took about 30 minutes because I had to remove the old, damaged maxxair cover). They're slightly lower in profile, much more aerodynamic, and the entire top easily opens for a full clean (not just the back). Yes, because they are lower, the vent only opens about 3/4; that's still enough for full airflow, and they're vented on both the sides and back. Yes, they don't have a screen over the vents; So what? Your…

Inventory and inspect product prior to installation

This review is for Camco's Areo-flo. 2 problems and 1 suggestion. The package was missing 1 washer and 1 lock washer and one of the other lock washers was too small. There was also a small crack on the top cover next to the screw. Ok - to the hardware store. but wait - I ordered 2 (I have 2 roof vents) and luckily - the other set had a spare washer and a lock washer! the task is solved. A small crack in the top plate was repaired by adding a washer to the bolt. Suggestion - the instructions…

You have to suck my wife says

I bought three - only $30? You're out of your mind? My wife tells me they have to vacuum. I've wanted to install vent covers on my new RV since I bought it in late Spring 2015. Spend $30 each. This day came after I went to www.thervgeeks.com and saw their offer as their favorite product is the Camco 40421 Vent Cover. I'll check - clearance sale, $10 each. Sold out. Installation - I watched a few videos on YouTube, don't know why after I started. one would be enough. the biggest and most…

A good idea that just doesn't last.

At first I was pleased when I opened the box and saw that the two vent covers were very well packed. Fit and finish were good. I immediately climbed onto the roof of my Bigfoot RV and was able to install one of the vents before I had to go back to work on Monday. Moderate sun with snow has been beating on it all week, and I climbed back onto the roof over the weekend to find the air vent we just installed was already turning yellow (just the detachable screen on the back). I couldn't remember…

Pros
  • Heavy Duty
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

The price was right but I saw some reviews that indicated buyers were disappointed with the durability of the product. Camco RV vent caps are made from a different material than (much more expensive) vent caps. So for a fraction of the cost I don't have the same expectations as if I bought the more expensive ones. However, I wiped them down with UV protection before applying them and plan to reapply this product a few times a year to try and increase their durability. I live in the Southwest…
