Rocks and Minerals in Science and Toy Sets

This collection of rocks is a lot of fun. There is something of everything here: polished stones, fossils, volcanic rock, geodes, rough stones. Just a little advice; Don't throw away limestone rocks just because they look like something from your backyard! Place them in a plastic cup or small glass jar and cover with distilled white vinegar to coat. They sizzle like crazy for a while because limestone contains calcium carbonate, which reacts with the acid in the vinegar. Leave them alone for a…

Rock Kit Saves Princess Marathon Woman

This kit turned 7 year old Princess' bachelor party into a slumber party for 7 year old aspiring geology enthusiasts. or future admirers of geologists. They especially liked the shark teeth and arrowheads. I've never seen kids stop watching The Little Mermaid and yap over princesses faster to spot stones. They played with it for two hours straight and only stopped because I put them to sleep. This is a great set and the kids just love it. Give them some water and a small brush and they'll…

Extremely disappointing

First impression: The box is wrinkled, unsealed, covered in dust, worn, scratched. It's like a box that's been sitting in someone's attic or garage for years. I bought this as a gift. Needless to say, the condition of the packaging makes gifting difficult. Second, I inspected a sealable bag full of rocks and minerals. While some of them were interesting, more than half of them look like the rocks you would find in your backyard. Dusty chunks of cement-colored gravel. No special look at all. So…

Amazing sentence! on Learning & Education

I am new to rock/gem/crystal collecting. I went to a local store for the first time (I've read that it's better to see what the crystals "speak" to me than to buy online) and got about 25 crystals for $140 - not cheap, but I was so happy with my choice (and 30% off!)...until I received this set. He actually had a $27 pair that I paid about $15 each for at a local store. WOW. I really don't understand why people are complaining about this set, they've probably never tried buying it from a local…

Pretty disappointing;

After seeing the product image and other customer images, I was happy to purchase this for a family member who has been very addicted to my personal crystal collection lately. This was meant to be some sort of starter box so they could learn a little more and see more variety than I could, but we were disappointed when we received the box this afternoon. One of the first oddities that struck me was that there were 6 pieces of 0.5cm wire in the pack - only blue with copper wire and I was…

Teacher Rating

I'm a speech therapist for grades K-5 and this year my goal is to add more STEM activities to my classes. I received this set as part of our stone and mineral block and couldn't be happier! This set had a really good selection of stones and minerals that were the perfect complement. We had over 150 items which I sorted into jewelry organizers based on their type. I've included an image to show the different types of rocks and minerals included in my set. Please note that your kit may contain…

Perfect for children's first stone collection

First of all, I would like to say that I have tried several children's stone collections. This one is definitely my favourite. My kids found the taped collections, taped to the side or in pre-labeled plastic junk bins, to be of only temporary interest. Fallen rocks or lab-generated stains of paint looked too cheap toys. Better to have a bunch to touch, explore and play detective in identifying items. Perhaps we'll move on to larger individual specimens - now that we have the knowledge of Little

Simple packaging but fun!

Don't let the plain packaging put you off - this set was fun, educational and worth the money! Bought this activity set for my son's 6th birthday and I have to say it didn't disappoint! It includes an identification sheet, 2 individually wrapped geodes, opening instructions, and a zip-lock mixed gravel bag containing the specific stones your child should be looking for when digging in "regular" gravel. "Fancy", the price is not a headache, and sorting gravel to find rock samples is actually…
