Beautiful, durable lantern

I love the Dietz Monarch lantern - it's been around since 1910 and it's a great design. The hot wind type is not as bright as the cold wind type, but produces much less smoke and odor as the combustion air is circulated, which also makes it ideal for indoor use.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Crumpled

Better than candles and without batteries

Dietz is the benchmark in the world of kerosene lanterns. Although the light output is nowhere near that of Aladdin or Coleman kerosene lamps (yes, Coleman still makes kerosene lamps), there is enough light for many tasks. We live in a village and although we don't lose electricity often, when we lose power it goes out for quite a while.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • There are nuances

Not bad but mainly show not the most practical

Looks good and won't leak unless you're stupid enough to overstuff it. However, I actually prefer the smaller $10 bottle I bought at Walmart. This one is more for show than anything and puts out about the same amount of light as the other if you're using it indoors. For outdoor use you could turn the flame up a lot, but that creates a lot of smoke and soot, which isn't great, especially compared to the smaller ones I have.

Pros
  • delivery was very quick
Cons
  • too stupid

i really like it - Home accessories

As a survivor, I'm always looking for other ways to do things. The lighting is no different and this device does the trick. Fuel is now cheap anyway (in stock) and burns clean. The device seems a bit cheap, ie. material sensor. I've watched a few videos online and while I haven't heard what they used years ago I'm guessing they were a little thicker since people actually restore them. The processing quality is about 7 out of 10 points. It doesn't fit 100%. But what can you expect in today's…

If you are curious how do I get one.

An interesting flashlight. The Hot Blast design is the oldest patented hurricane streetlight design. I only bought it to compare to the more modern (and much more common) Cold Blast design. I've found that the flame tends to flare more than a regular cold blast. Draft. It burns bright enough but I have a feeling the new design will work better in the wind. The hot blast design receives air directly from the chimney and the air is directed to the flame through side pipes. its air also from…

  • There are problems

OMG you must be kidding!

I have a lot of these lightbulbs and by far the most useless piece of junk I've ever received other than a few I got at Walmart. The quality is disgusting. You can't lift the globe (for the lighting) without fundamentally reshaping the wires and levers. Besides, all is not well. nothing lines up where it should be 90 corners. It almost looks like it was dropped from 100 feet or crushed under a huge weight. but you can tell by the color that it was made exactly that way. I see some products that

Pros
  • glitters
Cons
  • can be damaged

Leaks at the base seam.

Filled the lantern about 1/4 full, knowing these lanterns shouldn't be overfilled. Leaving it on my workbench to soak the wick, I picked it up and found a puddle of kerosene on the workbench. NOT GOOD! Confirmed leak at main seam. Others have commented that they fixed theirs, but I didn't have to fix a defective product! This can be a one-time event, the luck of the draw. Bought 2 Cold Blast #80 Dietz and they don't have this problem. The problem is that the arms are just spot welded to the…
