Really Good Lids: Fermentation & More

These lids are really good. They do what they are supposed to and work well. I made sauerkraut out of it and it tasted great. Now I'm making fermented pickles. I'll update as they come out. I still feel like I have to put a weight on the jars to keep my veggies from floating above the brine. (Photos will come later). Update: The red arrow shows the bubbles where gases are released and the blue arrow shows how to mark the cooking date.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

I like them, I've only had them for about a month, they seem to be of high quality. Only suitable for wide neck glasses. They are great for fermenting. If you have a garden, you should have it at harvest time. They are quite expensive, only $30 for 4 caps and an air suction pump. I couldn't find a lid. I probably should have gotten a pump pack of 12 caps and 1 for $100. I would recommend them.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Good set for the money

I bought another similar system first but they were on order so I went with these. I am by no means disappointed in them. They worked as intended and I actually liked these lids a bit more because they are more transparent than my solid black ones. I wish the pumps that come with all of these kits were of better quality. The pumps in both sets are very cheap and work cheaply. I'm always afraid of breaking them. However, they fermented my peppers and made a canned sauce that keeps for a while.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • weak

Great product works well so far!

Very easy to use yet great quality. I'm making a peppers sourdough appetizer with onions and garlic to make a hot sauce in a couple of weeks. The lids fit great and I only used the pump to try it out and it seems to work. Will definitely come in handy in the future as it's intended to be used later on when CO2 production is lower and oxygen isn't as easily displaced; manufactured to be used when trying pickles etc. The CO2 production and fermentation reaction is at its peak for the first week…

Pros
  • Easy to set up
Cons
  • Unreliable

Great concept for home brewing and winemaking

These lids are a great concept but I feel they have some flaws. On one of my fermentations I kept getting Kahm yeast that needs oxygen and I thought I had used all the oxygen. So I took out all 4 of my jars and used the pump on them. Without air, they would be difficult to inflate, but they were all easy to inflate. In short, the rubber stops that are supposed to hold air did not do their job. I will finish these enzymes but I will also take out 4 jars daily and make sure there is no air EDIT…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Glad I found this.: Fermentation and more

I just got my new lids, couldn't test how they worked but was so excited I wanted to "unwrap" them. experience so far. I've tried making all kinds of fermented foods with little success: kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt, etc. Anytime we have mold or something messed up, our biggest problem seems to be that there were always lids. These lids actually make you want to try again. I'll update my review when I do something with them, but for now I'm really impressed. The delivery was very quick.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Long time

COVER REMOVAL TIPS

I love these covers but there are a few things you need to know before saying they don't work! The tabs on the sides of the lid are useful, but you still won't be able to remove the lid unless you do the following: 1) Before putting the lid on, rub the rubber seal with some coconut oil to smooth it out a bit greasy 2) do not turn too hard when putting on the lid! As soon as you feel the lid screwed shut, stop! 3) When removing the lid, first push the valve sideways to pop the jar open, then run

Pros
  • Same as everything before
Cons
  • Weight
