Really accurate but not waterproof

I only use it for spearfishing. I used to have a Garmin 76CSx. This works similarly. I noticed that it is actually the approximate depth of the spots I marked. The depth is very accurate. I can't give 5 stars because I haven't used the other features. The battery compartment is not waterproof. There is no seal around the compartment. 76 csx also said it was waterproof but i know the battery box is not waterproof.

Cons
  • Hard to tell

Not waterproof and inconvenient for coastal navigation.

The device is not waterproof. Bought for a kayak trip. Normal drops on the device will cause the inside of the display to fog up when exposed to sunlight. In addition, all point-to-point navigation is done in a straight line. Although marketed for sea navigation, it will take you to land if that is the most direct route. Suppose you are traveling from one side of the peninsula to the other. It will not approximate the distance as a water route around the earth, but will simply cross the earth…

Garmin reputation is going down

Recently bought a Garmin 78sc - it worked for 1 week then an error message appeared (cannot unlock maps) and the unit continued to function unusable - called Garmin after reading all the negative information about this device - they said Garmin is aware of the problem and that a solution exists - however on the internet it looks like this error message has been complained about for 5 months and still not fixed - they have refused to buy the device taking it back and said that replacing it would

Marine GPS Backup Plan

I have tried several devices as a backup for my Raymarine built-in GPS chartplotter. I thought I would try. First on my list is support. In less than a minute, someone popped up on Garmin chat. Unfortunately the gentleman was working from home and didn't have my device to hand to help me with some setup issues. But he was very patient and helpful. A call to Garmin went unanswered. Left a call back. Your auto reply said I would get a reply in about 4 hours. Never done. The device is accurate…

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Needs technical update but did the job.

Looking for a quick alternative to a chartplotter for a recently bought boat, I chose this GPS solution. As a waterproof handheld, I can use it as a backup on my sailboat and also take it with me in the mud or when camping. However, it is extremely versatile. The display is quite small, the resolution is not very good. Navigation and destination entry are not very good. From a user interface perspective, it's not the easiest to use. It also lacks many water-based routing features. (It plots a…

I like it, except for the holey port covers.

This is a great little device that I have used extensively, including on a 47 day kayak trip from Anacortes WA to Petersburg, AK. When working properly, this is a great tool. However, there are some design flaws that I would like to correct. The rubber covers for the USB and power ports are poorly constructed and let in salt water, causing corrosion. My other IPX 7 devices (camera, FM radio, etc.) have sturdier housings that never leak. If you download many waypoints and routes, the device uses
