Disappointing

This book was not what I expected after reading the synopsis. The patterns are beautiful, but all three are very similar. The instructions are minimal. Supposedly the reader will understand them after knitting a probe. I've been knitting for over 50 years and I don't want to knit a sampler that I can never use. I would have liked more detailed instructions.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Unreliable

Openwork knitting Instructions

Despite the name, it's difficult to call it a "collection" because the book contains only three complete patterns, and one of them is only partially schematic! However, the basics of Russian patterns are clearly outlined, as is how to make their standard borders, how to wrap corners, etc. The lace is beautiful and the body of the book is a good starting point for those who want to get started. knit this type of lace.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Unfashionable

I suggest that you learn to read charts and knit lace before attempting any of the projects in this book. There are only about three projects, but they seem to cover a range of skills. If I had one criticism, it's that the charts…
