Fast, small and uncomfortably heated.

I'm using it on a 16" MacBook Pro and it works fast. I'm getting close to 1GB/s reading and writing, but it gets too hot when it's busy writing. I'm worried it won't last long. Only time will tell, but I'm concerned. Make sure you're using the included USB-C to USB-C cable to make it use the speed of USB 3.2 Gen 2. I tried the cable that came with my iPadpro and it's very slow in comparison.Update: I bought the drive in December 2019. It's now April 2021 and it's still running. Zero issues so…

Small, fast, high quality.

I would normally turn down an item that didn't have any reviews or ratings (which this one didn't have when I bought it) but since this little SSD was so new I decided to give the company a try to study and some of their other products to assess a potential risk factor. Obviously I took that risk and I'm still very happy about it. This little guy is small, sleek and super fast. Insanely super fast. The case is essentially a large heatsink which seems to work as it doesn't get very hot even…

Amazing, must have - Data Storage

Bought after reading many reviews of other devices and asking a question on their website. Your customer service is amazing. It had to be used as a backup for TONS of graphics that I didn't want to lose. A fraction of the physical size of my last external hard drive and four times the storage space. Very fast processing. I will be buying another one for another computer soon.

Pros
  • Positive Only
Cons
  • Expensive

After a short period of use to transfer video files between computers, both 2TB drives have already failed. several minutes of continuous archiving of video files. The design appears to be flawed when the sustained write performance is worse than mechanical hard drives and the sustained write time is more than 10 times slower than the manufacturer's advertised speed.

Pros
  • Doping πŸ”₯
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged

Wow! Solid State External Drives

What a great external drive. Small and fast. It was advertised as "up to" 950MB/s and I wasn't expecting to see that level of performance. I got over 900MB/s in both writing and reading. Oyen stated that they typically use Intel 660 SSDs in 1TB Helix devices. Please note that you cannot buy this SSD with case and cables at this price. I would consider this trip a real bargain. Feel free to buy it. Although this drive is solidly built, it feels a little "chunky" when placed flat on a surface. I…

Insanely compact, reads fast, doesn't write very well. runs hot

I bought this to have a fast SSD to use as an external backup/boot drive for my MacBook Pro (13" Touch Bar, Late 2016) as well as extra storage to backup Image files and videos can use travel. I wrote an initial review which didn't show up but went back to check anyway. I hope this actually gets published. At first I was impressed with the speed as I usually saw 950MB/s. But. It reads infinitely fast, but when I write to it, it slows down after about 10GB copies of MacOS Finder, dropping from…

Caution when using disks to edit external video libraries

I purchased this hard drive in September 2020 to use in my Final Cut Pro library workflow as my internal hard drive is almost full and too slow for high resolution video editing is. Everything has worked well and quickly until today. The drive is almost always warm, but never overheats. However today I lost access to my 1.2TB FCP library stored on the hard drive and the blue light is blinking rapidly. The Finder showed that the library was empty at zero kilobytes, and I often got the message…
