Total junk - data storage

Bought this for my new PC I built in April 2020. Worked well, easy to install. Come June this year and it's hanging on the gigabyte downloads page. Did a few things and it worked again. In July it failed completely. I had to buy a new SSD and install Windows on it. Now I can't even access the files stored there. If you buy and I don't recommend, do it. Make sure you create monthly backups on a separate drive.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Almost everything ok

Make sure your motherboard has a compatible m.2 slot.

By the way, you can use PCIEx4 adapter if your MB don't have m.2 slot. I bought it consciously because it was HP. I saw the connector on my MB but HP didn't seem to know if it was compatible. I bought this one because it was the cheapest HP m.2 NVMe and I wanted to minimize the monetary risk. It works well in the HP Slimline 270 p033w that I installed it in. I'm happy with that, just a shame (20-20 in hindsight) I bought a larger capacity although it was fine for my use (Linux doesn't bloatโ€ฆ

Didn't do my homework on time. In the end I regretted this purchase.

This is an SSD with no RAM. This is an unconventional configuration designed to reduce costs and reduce power consumption. The result is a slower drive that occupies system memory and has a shorter lifespan. Given that you can get a regular SSD that's much faster for just a few bucks more, there's no reason to go down that route.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

Started failing after 6 months

Purchased in November 2019 to install a fresh copy of Windows 10 for my Lenovo laptop, worked great initially, quick start up and I used a traditional HDD for more data. intensive files. 6 months later and the drive is starting to get a BSOD at random times and now it shows up almost immediately after booting up. I have a copy of Windows on a different drive for a dual boot system, so after a few reboots I haven't had quite as much luck, Windows recognizes the drive again. If you are removingโ€ฆ

slows down too quickly

Reading speed was excellent. However, when copying large files, the drive slows down to the level of a cheap SSD. hardly supports the recording speed of 150-200 MB. He also has problems with the heating. My Toshiba xg5 rarely went over 50 seconds, but this one scored over 80 seconds on every task. Idle temp was 50+. I sent it back, I felt something was wrong with it. it behaved differently from other tested NVMe drives.

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Null

Without DRAM m.2. Slower than you think!

It's cheap because it's a DRAM-free SSD, NVME yes, but no built-in cache so it gets a lot slower with every big transfer, slower than a SATA SSD which sometimes also located on my system looks like a mechanical drive, the only reason to buy it is the cheap price and form factor, you can also use sata m.2, it's not much use here. Uses system memory for the paging file

Pros
  • Availability
Cons
  • Is there anything I can add

Great price for a well-known brand NVME card.

Installed in my Asus Q504UAK convertible laptop. Since there was mixed information about whether this machine supports the SATA or NVME standard, I decided against an M.2 card; When I discovered that card was under $50, I pulled the trigger. Installation in M.2 is easy! (well, after you opened your laptop) plugged in card, one screw all the way, restarted and already the first BIOS snapshot was found. The biggest PITA was cloning my spinning hard drive to an NVME card without reinstalling. Asus

Pros
  • Works on all Windows PCs, full host compatibility. Exe (HP Software Preinstallation Environment). Perfect upgrade for HP PC
Cons
  • So far so good

An entry-level DRAM-free NVMe SSD with some caveats.

The HP EX900 uses a Silicon Motion SM2263XT non-DRAM NVMe controller with Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology. The keyword here is no DRAM. Because of the speed, most SSDs write data to their internal cache (aka hard drive RAM) before actually writing it to the NAND memory chip. Drives without DRAM mean they lack a memory chip to temporarily store data. This is a cost-saving measure, so you can get this disc at a significant discount compared to the leading brand. This mambo jumbo means to youโ€ฆ
