GOOD LISTENING! for home audio

If you want quality sound in a compact package, try the R3. Phenomenal sound quality for bookshelf speakers. They make great music and great movies! Just a great investment for me and proud to have it installed on my home system.

Pros
  • Easy-to-read control panel
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

Solid British design

Another reviewer said he prefers the Bowers and Wilkins to these speakers for studio work, that's his prerogative. However, he misrepresented KEF, although they are a subsidiary of Peak Industries, the speakers are designed and tested in England. I should point out that his Bowers and Wilkins are also made in China, as are almost all speakers. If you want British or American production, pay the price.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Crumpled

Steve Guttenberg was right!

Upgrade from a pair of Elac Carina bs243.4 speakers. I have to say that after about 20 hours of work I am completely enthusiastic. Paired with my Mcintosh ma5300 these r3s sing and are a big step up over the carinas. Realism is almost surreal. I can close my eyes and swear the musicians are playing live in my listening room. WOW. I don't want to be a hardware critic, I'll leave that to guys like Steve Guttenberg who left these rave reviews. And he's worked with some of the greatest engineers…

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Requires Socket

Just a gem on the speakers

Probably the best bookshelf speakers you can buy even if you increase your budget significantly. It's hard to believe that the sound doesn't come from two towers. The sound is well balanced (not as bright as older KEF models) and while the R3 isn't a very powerful speaker, the sound quality, speed, resolution and 3D soundstage are phenomenal. After listening to the speakers I had to go back and check the performance as I found the bass to be really great. How can they be "only" 52Hz at 3dB? The

Balanced and engaging

I honestly think the one star review here is a troll who likes B and W or very pronounced highs, not that there's anything wrong with being someone who does those things loves but giving them one star is wrong. The ratings of these pillars from professionals are very high. They are praised for their balanced sound of mids, highs and lows, which is still captivating. The reviewer in this thread who tagged them probably prefers over-the-top tones in speakers, and that's fine. However, most prefer

Loud, clean, amazing sounding bookshelves that look like towers

I'm writing this in part because the 'boring boy' review didn't let me try these speakers. His opinion differs greatly from reputable sites like "whathifi" (they gave it a 5 out of 5 and called it unbeatable in the price range and I agree). This is a bookshelf speaker that literally sounds as loud as a floorstanding speaker. When choosing the right speaker I looked at black and white 606s2, 706s2, Fyne F500 and rw 51m clips. Fyne had amazing 3D but they cut off my ears. Both Bowers and Wilkins…

  • Enjoyable
