Great filter does not fit XB9R

Good quality filter but will not fit 2003 XB9R lower fairing bracket. Nut welded to filter enters lower fairing bracket.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Operating speed

I would not use any other oil filter!

KNN filters are my favorite filters. My wife's SUV, my jeep, RV and generator, lawn mower, backup generator and now my motorcycle. I like that they are easy to remove and replace.

Quality and Reliability

Needed a replacement oil filter for the bike I bought. Always rely on K&N to deliver quality products, so I replaced the base filter with K&N. I know I don't have to worry about it doing its job and expect it to do plenty of miles and keep the engine in tip-top shape.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Unreliable

K&N The best for oil and air filters.

In my opinion the best oil filter money can buy. I love that they have a wrench and if you've ever seen an oil filter without one and it wouldn't come loose, you'll really appreciate a K&N oil filter. Also, they are simply better than FRAM or other brands.

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Quality

but couldn't find better quality. The main feature is for me.

I've been using this KN filter on my Buell XB12 for over 10 years. Maybe there are cheaper filters, but I haven't found the best quality. The main feature for me is the non-welded end, pre-drilled for the safety wire. In addition, the nut makes it easy to remove the filter with just a wrench.

Pros
  • High test results for support and durability
Cons
  • Good but not great

Great features, great brand

Perfect for my 2002 Buell Blast. I like the black with minimal white markings so it doesn't stand out (because it literally sticks out on the bike). I also like the protrusion on the bottom that allows you to use a wrench to install/remove (or a torque wrench if you're the "by the book" type of person). This is a big improvement over an oil filter or strap wrench. K&N has always met my expectations.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Fine

So easy to remove. Best in Motorcycles and Weight Sports

I've been using K&N oil filters on my cars and motorcycles for a while now. It seems like a quality product and I love being able to use a wrench or socket when removing it. I just have to be careful not to overtighten them. I've never had a problem removing the K&N filter like some other brands and have never had a single leak, so I'll pay a few bucks more for the peace of mind and ease of installation and removal.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No Instructions

Fits Buell Lightning XB9S

Perfect fit for my 2003 Buell Lightning XB9S. As with any filter, it is best to change it at every oil change. It's hard to say much about the internal quality without cutting it in half, but it seems good enough. As others have said, the 17mm nut is a sleeve - it makes removing the filter a lot easier. Be sure to fill the filter with oil before installing it to prevent the engine from running without oil for several moments after an oil change.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Well made, fits my Buell XB12S, slightly shorter than HD? He replaces.

I have used KN-177 on both Buell XB12S 07 and 08. When I got the bike, 08 had KN-177. KN-177 is slightly shorter than the filter he replaced with 07 (not sure what brand he replaced but most likely HD as that is the brand of oil the previous owner used). I cannot confirm the effectiveness of this filter in terms of whether its filtering is better or worse, or whether it is more or less restrictive compared to other filters. But I can confirm that it's made of thicker steel than most filtersโ€ฆ

  • Decent performance
