Run, Don't Walk: Networking Products

Revain, stop selling this junk. Doesn't work with Comcast at all, even though it's supposedly designed specifically for that. The 24/7 support didn't help and tried multiple times to get me on Comcast even though I had already spoken to Comcast. I have to research the best product from a company that doesn't give a damn. I've already spent a whole day with my device, hopefully the next one won't be like this.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

accurate speeds, easy setup, not $200 (at least for now)

easy and quick setup, works exactly as I hoped, price was reasonable and affordable considering that other modems/routers are used (holy please, some of these these prices?) and get between 200-256Mbps with an internet plan up to 200Mbps in the 5GHz band across the spectrum. While you understand what you're seeing, I bought this device the day Amazon released it, so we'll see. I'll update if I ever have to.

Pros
  • easy to use
Cons
  • sad packaging

Inconvenient for the admin

If you're the type to just plug it in and that's it, you won't have a problem. bulky mess. You have to set up a Netgear account to log into the control panel, which is stupid. From there, living is a nightmare: it will keep checking in and telling you that the router is already registered. For me, the only way to log in was to ask for a one-time password, which is required for their system to function. So how can you configure your router when the system is down? Terrible. It worked in the end, but it was an agonizing five hours.

I chose this product because it has Wi-Fi and is the preferred product for Xfinity. Had I known it would take hours to set up, I would have chosen a different product. 1) It took me three applications to set up the model. 2) I also had to shell out another $75 for a Wi-Fi extender because the one that worked with the previous Netgear model no longer worked. 3) I had to set up an account before anyone at Netgear could help me, and even then they could only suggest things like "turn off and turnโ€ฆ

Don't buy this, it will cause you to run the second login.

Big warning for this product. It's not like other modem devices, when you enter an IP address or login URL into the router and are directed to the router settings. No, it forces you to first login to your router and then to a second login system that you must register with NETGEAR in order to login to your modem. This secondary system connects to the internet. This means that if you don't have active internet on the device, you won't be able to access the router settings during setup or duringโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

I've been using this modem very well for almost 2 months until this month it started restarting itself constantly. It's terribly annoying when you're playing with a team or in a meeting and you go offline because your modem rebooted on its own. It happens all the time every day, sometimes during the day and definitely several times during the night. I bought another one to see if the problem was with the modem itself. COX is a very bad company as they charge for 3rd party modems because theyโ€ฆ
