Description of Nooelec SAWbird H1 Applications Frequency

SAWbird+ H1 is a self-contained LNA module designed for hydrogen line detection and similar 21cm band experimentation. The module uses 2 ultra-low-noise LNAs and a custom high-performance SAW filter centered at the frequency of interest. SAWbird+ H1 can be powered in 3 ways: via bias tee, through the on-board microUSB connector, or through the on-board female header. Made in North America with love. Full 2 year warranty and support direct through Nooelec!.

Hydrogen alpha filter, anyone? This one is really beautiful!

If you are an SDR owner and want to listen to Inter-Stellar Medium (ISM), then this filter is for you. It filters and enhances your ability to hear the cosmic background radiation. I've tried this with a few different antennas and it works. Good buy!

Pros
  • Everyone likes it so far
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Great work in tandem with Astrospectrometer

Amazing and powerful technical capabilities are now available to radio amateurs. My original plan was to reproduce some of the results documented by a group of students on the internet. Their project demonstrated how the natural frequency H1 (1420.4 MHz) of neutral hydrogen can turn red and blue due to the Doppler effect and the rotation of our Milky Way (MWG). Similarly, West Virginia University Radio Astronomy Project (WVU RAIL) spectrometer software using a polyphase filter bank technique…

A group of high school teachers is working with West Virginia University and the National Science Foundation to build and test radio telescopes to observe the Milky Way. They will teach electronics and astronomy to the students. The most important part of the radio telescope is the first low-noise amplifier. The NooElec amplifier is specially designed for radio astronomical observations. It has high gain and good HF filter to reduce interference. Figure 1 (outlined in red) shows an amplifier…
