I am returning this compass and cannot recommend it. Accuracy is key in a compass and the markings on this compass differ by 2 degrees from the directional arrow to the N and S marks. 2 degrees at 10 miles will put you more than a quarter mile from your destination. Of course you can make adjustments manually when adjusting the declination, but why leave room for more human error than already exists when everything that is required is marking matches during production.

I was looking for a lightweight compass for my pocket and here it is. It is very accurate and does not wobble or appear indecisive with respect to true magnetic north, even with slight interference from nearby metallic or electronic objects. Easy to read and with all the features I wanted (map scale, amazing quality magnifying glass, easy to read dial) without the extra weight required to estimate altitude, which is totally unnecessary in Florida. I would buy this again.

Nice little good value compass with the added feature of being able to place it on the map (presumably in case it gets lost!) and figure out which direction to go! Although we rarely visit the forest, I am very interested in the properties of buildings aligned with the cardinal points. So I wanted to check the orientation of our house, our friends houses, the hotels we stay in and any buildings we enter like museums! The strap frayed when opening the compass case. I loved the compass. The numbers and grid are legible as you would expect. The problem is inside. the compass points SOMEWHERE CLOSER NORTH. In the picture, my compass disc is turned north (general direction). Red has nothing to do with it. In fact, when I move the dial, the red and white hands move with it. It should not be. I hope scouts don't use this compass. It's terrible. For who can trust a compass that does not point north?
