Purchased to connect HP 523sfp with Intel 520-da2

As stated in the title above I bought this to connect HP 523sfp with Intel 520-da2 on two different Dell Powerge servers in a Promox cluster associate. No compatibility issues, you may need to enable 3rd party SFPs on the Intel device but it works immediately after that.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Repair

1.5m SFP+ DAC cable works great for my use case

My home network uses mostly 1000BASE-T for desktops and AC for everything else. I needed a faster connection between my PC and my Xeon server, so I plugged used Mellanox ConnectX-3 cards into each computer and connected them directly with GW-Fiber's 1.5m DAC cable. After a small adjustment everything worked. .iperf benchmarks (average speed over 30 seconds): Gigabit Ethernet: 942 Mbit/s. SFP+ Defaults: 9.34 Gbps SFP+ Jumbo Frames: 9.58 Gbps I might get a switch one day, but I'm in no hurry…

Pros
  • Well built
Cons
  • Neutral

Not UniFi Compliant

I had a huge nightmare tracking down packet loss and it turned out that the cable was not UniFi Compliant at 1G port speed. Nice built in cable but I can't use it with my current hardware.

Pros
  • Quality Construction
Cons
  • No

Suitable for DAC in network products

Bought as 10GbE DAC to connect Synology DS1517+ to PC. I added Mellanox CX311A adapters to both my PC and Synology and didn't want to upgrade to a 10GbE switch and all these hassles. Normally 7 meters should be an advantage for a passive DAC, but unfortunately I needed a 10 meter cable. . I chose this cable. First the cable: This is a good solid build with a fairly, but not overly stiff cable. Thickness is slightly thicker than Cat 6a. In general it seems reliable. Second (and more importantly)

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Something different

Change speed configuration on ports

Works great with my Ubiquiti UDM Pro. Just remember to change the config speed for the ports to the same 1GB instead of leaving it auto.

Pros
  • Not only useful for intended purpose
Cons
  • Not reliable
