Inaccurate - Compasses

I bought this compass on a recommendation to put in my travel bag. Geographic north is imprecise. I've tried it in several places and compared it to a known working compass. 3/5 times different results. That's why I'm sending it back. Also, the labels and writing are VERY difficult to see.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Functionality

VERY GOOD COMPASS best interior accessory

First time buyer of a compass in this caliber Compass is durable, easy to read and fits in your pocket. It has many nice features including a dial on a cord with a built in screwdriver. previously, to set the declination, the only thing I had was an old WWII German compass that I got from my father when I was serving in the Boy Scouts. Sorry dad, these are way better.

Pros
  • Trial for one year
Cons
  • Crumpled

Very good for interior

Purchased so I don't have to struggle with my traditional lens compass when doing wilderness search and rescue. This pup here is the bees knee if you use UTM 1:24000 on SAR. It was great to put next to my old army compass but had the benefit of not having to convert anything and do math in the rain and at 0100. Great product, worth spending a few extra dollars on. .

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Slightly torn

SQUARE! Attention, the product image is wrong!

The picture and part number in the description refer to the 360 degree version. What I got was the "QUAD" version, which has four sets of 90 degree sections. If you don't know what a QUAD compass is, this isn't for you and you'll have a very hard time determining direction. I returned it from a seller on this list and ordered again from another seller on the list and received QUAD again. Someone must amend the listing to reflect what is actually for sale.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Largely ok but...

One of the best compasses out there

This is one of the best buys when it comes to a mirror base compass. Very similar to Expedition S, Silva Compass Expedition S, Clear, One Size, with a few notable additions; The baseplate has mile markers for 1:24,000 maps, the strap also has mile markers for 1:24,000 and 1:62.5,000 maps, and Silva has added a small center grid at the south end of the orientation pointer to provide more accurate declination to allow customization. . The only improvement I can think of is to take the markings…

Magnetic needle Silva Ranger 2.0

I have been using and loving Silva compasses for many years. My last one had a fairly large blister so I decided to buy a new one and chose the Silva Ranger 2.0. However, when I opened up my new compass, I noticed that the magnetic needle was not properly balanced. The end of the arrow pointing S is much closer to the bottom of the compass, while the end of the arrow pointing N is almost touching the top. It spins freely when fully aligned, but it's a little bumpy and I can see the needle…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

Great compass! Best in Compass

I love this compass. LOVE IT. and the glow-in-the-dark feature comes in handy - not least when you're in a pit latrine and can't see what you're doing and you don't want to accidentally drop the compass. Trust me, if you use it regularly, it will come. The compass is strong, easy to read, fits in a pocket but can be hung around the neck, and a place for a mirror is a godsend for those who stand on the transepts. At first I was upset that I paid $40 for a compass, but after a month in the field…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

first impression.meh

Looks cool. I have several compasses from Sunto, Silva and other brands. This is my first mirror compass. When opened, the packaging bears the inscription "Luminous marker for night use". After charging the glowing markers with bright light, I entered the darkened room. You can see the markings on the baseplate well, not that well, but the markings on the needle itself are indistinguishable, making them useless in a very dark situation. If you can't see the needles, you probably won't be able…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
