very poor support when used with QNAP devices

I had very high hopes for this device/adapter and REALLY wanted it to work, but ended up getting it Abandoned because: 1. This is VERY difficult to set up if you want anything other than RAID 1 (mirroring). One might imagine that a simple setting of the built-in DIP switches would be required, but in the end it's a tedious process of turning the NAS off and on and switching between different modes until the desired state is reached;2. Although it is a QNAP product, it almost DOES NOT SUPPORT…

Pros
  • Supports PC/Workstations (Windows, Linux) or QNAP NAS
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Works on my QNAP TS 431XeU

. I need this to implement RAID5 with 1GB cache acceleration on my QNAP. I tried it first and failed when I realized that I need 8GB of RAM for my application. The device version I bought was only 1GB. The form, fit and function were perfect as it fitted easily into the disc tray. The kit included all the mounting hardware needed for my installation. After some minor changes to the system configuration settings to speed up caching and a reboot, my device fully recognized the QNAP adapter…

Works great as a RAID 1 block on a PC

I am using them on a PC (DELL Precision T7810 rebuilt by Revain) replacing the 1TB 3 that came with it .5 inch through a SATA hard drive with this unit and 2 x 1TB Samsung 860 QVO SSDs (MZ-76Q1T0B/AM) configured to use RAID 1. Since this was a clean restore, it was easy to replace the SSDs to be installed in the device. , set it to initial forward pass (so NOT RAID 0, RAID 1 or JBOD), power on the system when I could get to BIOS SETUP and see the device and presumably both drives; I turned it…

Pros
  • RAID configuration: Individual, JBOD, RAID 0 or RAID 1
Cons
  • Infinitely slow

Ideal for mirroring

Bought to run VMs on VMware ESXI and Proxmox as there is no way to mount your drives in those types of operating systems to back up or mirror. There's no way to mirror in software, so you'll need a hardware raid device. Raid modes 1 and 0 work fine (just make sure to reformat the drive if you switch modes). I doubt that the performance of the SSDs will increase significantly when running in Raid 0 since they are still limited by the SATA bus, but it can improve the performance of a 2.5" HDD. In

Pros
  • Two 2.5" SATA drives in a 3.5" SATA drive bay
Cons
  • Expensive
