My device was having problems

I got the switch last week and connected four computers (windows 10 and linux mix) with Realtek RTL8125 based NICs. The switch seemed fine at first, but I noticed that port 3 kept dropping. I misplaced the cables but the problem with port 3 came back. Turning the device on and off helped for a while, but the problem eventually returned. I'm not sure if the problem was a faulty device or a design issue, but I think I'll wait for other vendors to offer similar switches to see if I can come up…

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but something happened

Poor thermal design, stops traffic

I'm a big fan of QNAP, especially NAS, but this product is really disappointing. These switches simply stop random traffic, typically after 24-48 hours (with 3 ports of 2.5 Gb/s). I had the same behavior with two of them and returned both. This could be related to the thermals, as heavy traffic (download or streaming) over a long period of time will cause this to happen more often. Fan airflow didn't seem to help much. Opening a ticket in QNAP was a bit of a hassle as the serial number was not…

Stops forwarding packets after a few days

As others have reported, after a few days to a few weeks the switch simply stops forwarding packets, requiring a reboot. I have now replaced it with TRENDnet TEG-30102WS. So far no problems. It's MUCH more expensive, but I need something that doesn't crash randomly. I opened a ticket with QNAP support and although they responded to the query, they couldn't find anyone from tech support who could even speak to me about the issue. . Hence the 1 star rating for technical support.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Works as described.

An inexpensive way to connect to faster Ethernet. The bandwidth is greater than a single spinning disk on the NAS can use. Allows you to use the spinning NAS drive as if it were installed on your computer. There is no difference in read and write speeds. Maybe the raid array could load it completely. SSD NAS can, but few people have it. I'm using Category 6 cabling. I've also tested with 100 feet of 5e. Worked fine with that. I would recommend if you have a use case for it.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • too stupid

2.5GbE Switch Used With Comcast xfinity XB7-T Gateway Error Free

Use this switch with Comcast xfinity 1 Gigabit Ethernet Internet Service. I have an XB-7T gateway with a 2.5GbE port to a switch and then to 3 computers with a 2.5GbE NIC. Get 1200+ down and 42 up consistently across all computers. Easy setup and connection of all computers. I would recommend if you have a gig service and want to get the most out of the service.

Pros
  • Something's Inside
Cons
  • Weight

Great way to increase LAN transfer speed

This is great for people who regularly transfer large files between a small group of systems (like PC to NAS or transferring Chia graphics) I use this about a half a year (pre-ordered it after the announcement). 2.5Gbps auto-negotiation between my 3 systems: Windows 10 PC (Gigabyte x570 Aorus Xtreme motherboard), non-raid NAS server (Linux based, on ASRock X570 Phantom Games x) and Ubuntu system (Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master) . Large file transfers between systems can consistently exceed 250-270…

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Almost never
