Calm down, thanks Seagate

I bought a refurbished computer with all the latest specs except for the floppy drive. Came with an old 2012 Hitachi HHD. The HHD worked great but was very noisy. No clicks or "something's wrong" beeps. Just a louder than usual soft ticking when he was reading/writing – which happened quite often. It may have been a normal noise with some drives, but I'm not used to it - all my drives have been quiet, including other Hitachi drives. It got to the point where I put my computer to sleep or turned

No 7200 RPM on internal SSDs

I chose this product because the description said it was a 7200 RPM drive. As you can see from the picture I uploaded it's only a 5400rpm drive. Had I known that I would have gone to a different brand. The drive runs and is quiet so I give it 4 stars, I took one off because I was lied to about the speed.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Null

"Easy to install” to me means that the drive comes with simple setup instructions. It is not. And "User's Guide" on the product they aren't either. Very frustrating for those of us who install a new drive every 5-10 years and don't remember what was required the last time.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Only available in white

Pretty quiet and fast

Great drive! It's not even audible due to the almost silent case and processor fans. This will almost certainly be the last spinning disc drive I will buy in my life and I'm happy to end it in style.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Working speed

ST8000DM004 is an SMR, not a CMR. Seagate DOES NOT disclose.

While I like the capacity of the drive, the fact that Seagate did not disclose that this drive was SMR made it unusable for my purposes, which were intended for an XBOX RAID 1 external hard drive. For those who don't know, SMR is composite magnetic recording and not traditional magnetic recording. Working with roof tiles is very similar to working with your roof tiles, where the pieces are laid in the right order. The problem is that if a bit needs to be overwritten, the ENTIRE sector of the…

First you need to download the software

. I returned the 1st because he couldn't find it. I had the same problem with a replacement. I had to go to Seagate and download their master discs. After that it worked. There is NO guide for it, just a warranty document, so you just need to know enough to find out for yourself. No other HD of mine needed it.

Pros
  • . It is OK!
Cons
  • Hard to remember but it was

Noise, slow performance, buggy, etc.

Terrible annoying vibrations when your head is searching . A louder (faster spinning) drive would mask that noise a bit, but this drive, while otherwise quiet, really punches you in the face with the noise when the drive is active. Technically this thing is completely silent, but attach it to the case and the vibration turns it into a speaker that amplifies head noise. You really need to install some suspension with foam or something. Performance is good at first, then becomes terribly…

Very slow drive in computers and accessories

I have 2 drives in my computer, C drive for SSD OS. and D for data Seagate 2TB Barracuda compute and desktop drives use Single Sided Magnetic Recording (SMR) technology, which can have slow data write speeds. But the Seagate documentation doesn't state this. Copying 1.1TB to this drive took 9 hours! I then put my old drive back in and the same copier took 2.5 hours to copy the same 1.1TB. All I can say is do your homework, I will never buy a Shingled magnetic hard drive again! Here is the list…

Terrible computers and accessories

About a month ago I ordered the 2TB Barracuda. It was bad right in front of the goal. Makes an audible click that can be heard across the room during movie playback. When I called Revane later to tell them what was going on. They showed me pretty quickly that there was nothing they could do. "Why did it take you almost a month to decide to report it?" Mainly. Why does it matter? On the second place. I was sick. So I called Seagate directly. They were much more responsive and after trying a few…
