My daughter is very robust, 5 years old. The xs is not skin tight and will probably last a full year. If your 5-year-old has a big butt or hates being tight, the xs might look like compression leggings (consider going up a size). If your daughter is used to elastic waist pants that fall down or need to be folded like a size XS, this might fit!

Excellent fit and durable material. Would have given them 5 stars if it wasn't for the packaging. They came with a large cloth sticker that was incredibly difficult to remove. It was an adhesive, definitely not meant to be applied to fabric. It took several minutes to remove all the glue and paper from the pants. I really thought about returning them because I was so annoyed.
