Sony DVD player is the best among DVD players

I was a bit surprised at how it came, no outer box with a seal, like I bought it off a stick and brick shelf. So I opened it with trepidation and was glad the DVD player was intact. It has a sleek, minimalist look and complements my other Sony products. This is a single player that satisfies my needs quite adequately. It was very easy to hook up to my Sony amp and then came the task of programming it. Make sure you read the instructions, it can be a little tricky if given the wrong languageโ€ฆ

Good product but would like to improve

I've been playing this DVD player for about a week and so far it has lived up to my expectations. Good picture and sound. I can see some were disappointed with the lack of an optical audio out, but I would still use it on an HDTV. Pretty much every type of stereo has a single optical input, so why not connect everything from your TV to it? I want surround sound on all my devices, DVD, VCR, PS3, Xbox etc. The upconvert feature is good but let's be honest; I don't expect HD quality from DVDโ€ฆ

For $53? Cute! Good unit!

I have several Sony DVD players. Two of these are thin silver, which were the latest advances in technology when progressive scan was a big problem. Also, I also have a device that came out just before that which is also a 1080 upscaling thing. (Don't be looking for high-tech geek talk here like the average Joe who loves his TV.) But I just bought a new 55-inch Sony Bravia 1080p LCD flat screen TV and needed a new DVD for it. player. I don't have a Blue Ray DVD yet, so I know I'm not gettingโ€ฆ

Another great Sony product at a great price!

I bought this device as a gift and wanted to be sure after receiving it that it survived the delivery process in order. Upon unboxing the unit, I noticed that a non-proprietary set of composite audio/video cables was included in the package and used them to connect everything. At the same time as I originally ordered, I also purchased a Monster B SV1/100-1.5M composite video kit with RCA audio cable from Revain.com. While everything worked fine with the DVD player, I noticed areas of whiteโ€ฆ

Nice picture but problems with some DVD+Rs

I have two of these DVP-NS710H/B; I ordered a second one thinking the first one would die as it stuttered and got stuck on some of my DVD+Rs. I have been producing my own DVDs (DVD+/-R and DL) for many years and used an older Sony DVD until a year ago; DVP-NS75H. The NS75 worked flawlessly and delivered the same picture quality as the NS710 on my 42" 1080i HDTV. I bought the NS710 as a backup for my NS75 but used it regularly until realizing it was sold to Ritek, TDK, Maxell DVD -R and DVD+Rโ€ฆ

Random Video Loss - Unknown Causes

may not really indicate a device malfunction. New DVD player from Sony. I hooked it up to a very new (three month old) Magnavox 42" flat screen 1080 resolution LCD via Revain's new HDMI brand, but it looks like the issue is due to an incompatibility between the Sony and due to the Magnavox TV. I'll try to fix the issue and if it turns out to be unrelated to Sony I'll remove the review below. If anyone had a similar problem with Sony, please let me know. Many Thanks. *** After reading countlessโ€ฆ

Good option for new but not Blu-ray

I've only had the player for a few days so can't comment on its reliability. I haven't read the entire manual either, so I may have missed some features. I was confident I was buying here with good reviews and a great price for a player that would make my old DVDs look good on my new huge HDTV. I don't have any Blu-ray discs and don't plan on buying any anytime soon, so this was a good option for a cheap non-Blu-ray upconverter. The upconverted video quality is actually slightly better than the
