The Sony ICDSX46VTP digital voice recorder is very versatile. It's easy to use and the sound quality is excellent. I can record my lectures without adding an extra external microphone and the teacher doesn't have to put it in his pocket. Transferring, editing and converting files takes only 30 seconds. It should be.

This Sony voice recorder does a great job of recording music with a few tweaks. 1 - Record with maximum quality. 2 - Use a good external electret stereo microphone such as the Sony ECM-MS907. If you're shooting remotely for a large group, use a small preamp like the Archos. This combination gives you CD quality in a mini package.

I paid $250 for the voice recorder and I couldn't find the CD when replacing my laptop. You would think Sony would offer a download or replacement through support, but NO. You have to BUY the software again and again. The $250 dictaphone is useless now due to its proprietary format, but I'll be damned if they get another dime out of my money and not a dime out of yours.

Advertised to take this product to a conference or meeting and record a speaker. I can't record anything unless my mouth is pressed against the microphone. Piece of shit and I paid over a hundred bucks. I definitely feel like an idiot. I could buy a cheap recorder and get better results. Too much background noise even when there was no other noise in the room. Suitable only as a personal microphone.

NO SOFTWARE FOR NEW OPERATING SYSTEMS LIKE WINDOWS 7 AND 8. You cannot capture files from this recorder (according to Sony) without software. You can download copies of the Digital Voice Editor software from the Sony website by entering your device number, but YOU CANNOT USE THIS DEVICE WITH NEW OPERATING SYSTEMS. If my XP computer crashes my device that works great is useless unless I can find third party software that works. I love this device it's awesome and great for lectures doctor visits
