Vintage Quality: Wrenches

I lost an old adjustable wrench (30+ years old) at a job site and wasn't sure if anyone still made it. Fortunately, Stanley still makes one, and a good one at that. Usually, older hand tools have a sense of quality that modern ones don't, but not in this case. It will take several years or decades to find out if it really is that durable.

Pros
  • Power & Hand Tools
Cons
  • Not as thick as other pickaxes

It worked and didn't break

I had to tighten a very high torque clutch in a tight space. I had to use a tube over the handle to get enough leverage. Worked and didn't break, but the key is not of high quality. I have a 40 year old Diamond Forge wrench that I've used extensively for years and even now it's even less sloppy.

Pros
  • Key
Cons
  • Obsolete model

Wide Open Jaws - Adjustable Wrenches

A bit pricey but I bought the 11" wrench because the jaws open 3 1/8" which is much wider than a crescent wrench. Haven't used it yet, but seems to be quite well made. Someone commented on the small handle in a smaller wrench review. I believe it's like this, you can put a piece of 1" pipe on top and turn it into a serious wrench.

Pros
  • Adjustable Wrenches
Cons
  • Small Parts
