Good basic NAS. Almost silent.

This is a budget NAS. This allows you to store files on your hard drive independently of your computer so that you can access them on your network. You can also open a port on your router and access files from anywhere over the internet. Although this is a budget item, it has some pretty fancy software. You can even open and edit Office files, read PDFs, etc. You can use it as a secure Dropbox replacement, backup, or cloud. Almost anything a NAS can do, you can do too. The downside is that…

Be patient - enclosure

Installing drives was a breeze. Connecting was easy. Working with the software that comes with this system is a real problem. I entered 4 or 5 accounts with multiple passwords none of which seemed to make sense. Then to "verify" my account, he wanted my email address to send a code, but after about 10 tries I gave up because I never received the code (and yes, I checked my spam Folder checked several times and added the Synology address to the list of accepted recipients). Now I'm trying to…

Very elegant solution for small business or home use.

Perfect solution for small business or home. Offers you a full range of features previously only available to large companies with no price tag. Share files on this drive and stop emailing documents. Stop the nightmare of backing up your workstations as it gives you network drives for a full set of operating systems. The Linux-based operating system offers high availability and reliability. Some people are happy with 2-bay devices, but moving to 4-bay allows you to increase capacity and support

THE WORST NAS you can buy!

I received this product on Sunday evening. Upon opening the box I was greeted with brief instructions which gave me hope that this would be an easy and simple installation. I was completely wrong. So, after 4 hours and 1 factory reset, I turned on the NAS. Like many tech companies, Synology offers the usual feedback and tracking options, which I typically turn down. What I didn't expect was that the NAS would fail when I chose not to participate in the final selection during launch, which ties…

220J and 420J Very fast, easy to set up, reliable and quiet

Because Revain is bundling the 220J and 420J together I can't look at 420J in isolation so I am revising my 220J review to include 420J. I got the 420j 15 months after the 220j and as expected the 420j is excellent too. In fact I got a great discount of 420J from Revain warehouse for returned items indistinguishable from new packaging. I use Synology 220J and 420j in a very simple way to set them as destination for downloading torrent files and backups. , and storing other large files I don't…

I have a love-hate relationship with this product

UPDATE: I have the following problem. There were times when I noticed a lot of disk activity even though nothing was happening on the network. After a while, the device would not respond to software commands, nor to turning it off with the power button, which then required a power off (not recommended). I did a little research and found a story of people reporting this exact issue with a number of Synology NAS devices, some of which were released six years ago. Not wanting to contact Synology…
