Coating peels off so the drainer is rust in a couple of months

I really liked the way this fit in my sink, and the removable, nice size/shape utensil holder. It was the ideal shape for in my sink. The utensil holder fits better tho on the side rather than inside. In the large space that was left where the utensil holder originally fit, my hubby inserted a resin dowel rod. It’s ideal in size and shape, better than any other I’ve used.It worked so well!Until the plastic coating began peeling off, slowly at first.By now 7 months later, it’s peeling off in big chunks, leaving rusted metal which I really don’t want for my dishes. Whoever makes this needs to use something more like silicone, or whatever it is that Rubbermaid uses.I seriously considered getting this drainer again, and have hubby put a durable coating of something on it.But then decided to just go back to Rubbermaid, like I’ve been using for decades. I don’t like Rubbermaid’s utensil holder but can still use the one from this one, it’ll fit on the side.

Pros
  • The rack is sturdy and won't tip over even when loaded with heavy dishes
Cons
  • May not have enough space to separate different items
