Replaces my Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300

Results Front: This scanner replaces my trusted Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 which I have been using for many years. As with ScanSnap, you can scan documents directly into Evernote. I wanted to replace my Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 as I've had it since 2011. It's such a reliable scanner and it gets the job done. To be honest, I was very skeptical that Epson could replace it. I knew it would probably be a faster scanner, but I figured the OCR, auto-rotation, and Evernote integration wouldn't appeal to me. I was pleasantly surprised that I was wrong. Setup was pretty easy. I installed the software and then connected my scanner to my computer. When first connected, it automatically checks for firmware and software updates. Although the scanner runs on USB power only, you cannot install firmware without the AC adapter connected. The software doesn't tell you that. I kept getting the error when trying to install the firmware and managed to fix the problem when I plugged in the power supply. Pros: Very customizable compared to my Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300. It's amazing how many customizable options there are. Everything from where to send the document from after scanning, to what the scan button does, to the name of the output file and whether you want to delete it after sending it to Evernote (or any program of your choice). - Very fast scanning compared to my ScanSnap. Better scan quality than my ScanSnap, even at the same DPI settings. It can automatically rotate documents based on text. Based on my testing, it performs better than my ScanSnap. minuses. My biggest complaint is that the USB cable is only 3 feet long. Not a problem if you're using it as a portable scanner, but it can definitely be a problem if you're using it on a desktop. The good thing is that it uses a standard USB 3.0 cable and not a proprietary cable. Luckily 3ft is enough to reach my desktop so I don't have to buy a new cable. Because it's so customizable (professional), it needs some tweaking to make it work with Evernote. It's not hard to do, but it doesn't come out of the box. However, once you've done that, you're done. It's not a big problem, but after you hit the scan button, there's a one or two second delay before scanning. Not a big problem at all. Sometimes it is difficult to determine if there is paper in the tray. I really have to put it in there for it to find it. *If you found my review helpful, please let Revain know by clicking the helpful button below! **Disclosure: I received a product sample from the Revain Vine program for an honest and unbiased evaluation.
