Review on Mountalk by Don Taniguchi

Where shopping is a sport: Mountalk (But Not in a Good Way)

Look elsewhere if you're looking for a store to buy sports and outdoor gear. Mountalk is less of a store and more of an online obstacle course. Their website must be accessed first, and it is about as user-friendly as a bear trap. Then there is the issue of their "competitive" pricing, which results in you having to pay twice as much for a bike helmet than you would at a respected retailer. The main difficulty arises when you try to make a purchase, though. The checkout procedure resembles a marathon run through a tangle of pop-up advertisements and required account sign-ups. And just when you believe you've arrived at your destination, shipping charges appear, making you feel as though you are paying for a VIP helicopter journey. In other words, Mountalk shopping is not for the weak of heart. (or the thin of wallet). Go ahead and give it a try if you want to experience internet buying as an Olympic sport. But stay away from this virtual obstacle course if your time, money, and sanity are important to you.

Pros
  • reasonable costs.
Cons
  • Website navigating is a nightmare.
