Review on πŸŒ™ Philips Hue Dusk-to-Dawn Outdoor Motion Sensor: Wireless & Easy to Install for Smart Home (Hue Hub Required) by Brian Kumar

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Two gave up after just a few months.

Update 3/27/20: I bought a second one because I thought the first one was damaged by water (see below). The second is protected from the rain by a makeshift cover made from a used milk jug. Like the first, it worked without problems for several months, but suddenly lost contact with the hub. It's about 12 feet off the ground so I removed it - reset and replaced the batteries. Worked about a week and stopped again. For the money I can't give more than one star. Before: I was very happy with this sensor until it worked for about 9 months without any complaints. One day the data stream stopped and although the last battery level was around 70% I decided to replace the batteries. When I took out the sensor, water flowed out. I never removed the back to change the battery so it was as it came from the factory. The sensor was mounted about 12 feet off the ground on a very tall pine tree, so it was fairly sheltered from direct rain or snow and too high for anyone to mess with. I dried the sensor out for a few days and it worked again so I reattached it to the tree but this time it had a modified plastic bottle to eliminate the effects of rain. Unfortunately it stopped working again after about 12 hours. This is an expensive sensor and I expected longer life from it. Too bad.

  • Doping πŸ”₯
Cons
  • So far so good
