Review on Denon AVR-2113CI Networking Home Theater Receiver: AirPlay, Powered Zone 2 | Discontinued by Manufacturer by Russell Robertson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Bought used - great price

I was rather skeptical about this purchase. It was a 'used' item that was marked 'almost new' on Revain. I was looking for a good AV receiver to replace my old Pioneer and one of my local experts (in the home theater business) referred him to this particular model (along with a few others). Denon has always been known for quality components and value for money. When I saw the used price I was definitely interested. I bought a 'new' Nikon camera last summer that was packaged in retail packaging and couldn't tell if it had been used at all. I had hoped, that it somehow didn't work or had some sort of defect, so once I had everything hooked up (quite a hassle considering where all my speaker terminals are), I was a bit scared it would all work. Well I am happy to report that everything is set up perfectly and in just 2 days I can say that this is a bloody important update for me. The listening experience has really changed for the better. Even basic cable/satellite TV sounds much better. So far I've played Blu-ray, streamed Netflix, hooked up internet radio, Pandora, Sirius/XM Radio, AirPlay, PS3 and standard cable TV. Everything sounds and works great. I have zone2 that powers my entire home system, and it's incredibly easy to control with a smartphone app (love it). Overall I am very happy with this purchase. A few notes (it's still early so my experience is pretty fresh and limited). 1) The device gets quite hot (maybe even hot). I have it in my closet so I guess it's my fault. I bought a small USB powered fan which I plugged directly into the Denon and blew straight onto the back. Temperatures are MUCH better now. Something to consider if you plan on restricting airflow over this beast. 2) I'm not sure if I just don't get it, but the Apple Airplay feature seems to capture BOTH zones when you use it. I see no way Forward airplay to Zone2 and have other sources in Zone1 (or vice versa). Maybe Denon programmed the Airplay feature that way, or I just don't know how to properly select it as an input. However, it seems immaterial to me if you plan on restricting airflow over this beast. 2) I'm not sure if I just don't get it, but the Apple Airplay feature seems to capture BOTH zones when you use it.
