Review on πŸ“„ Epson ES-200 Color Portable Document Scanner with ADF for PC and Mac: Sheet-fed and Duplex Scanning Capabilities by Tom Roberts

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This thing doesn't like scanning pages directly.

Coming from the world of Fujitsu ScanSnaps and Fujitsu's habit of dropping Mac support for full-featured products a few years ago, I decided to give this Epson ES-200 a shot. small size and nice design. The quality of the resulting scans is clear and legible. The software could be a bit more intuitive on the Mac side, but I'm learning to use it. It's definitely not as easy as ScanSnap Manager, but there are a lot more customization options. The card reading function is really good - something I've never been able to do successfully with ScanSnaps. The Bad: The ES-200 pulls in paper so quickly I've never had a document that wasn't scanned crooked. The end results are clear but look very unprofessional. The software equalization options don't really help. I'd happily forego the ultra-fast scanning speed for documents that are just plain straight. Adjusting the paper guides has no effect as the pages feed through the scanner quickly and at an angle. The only way I've found to get straight pages out of this thing is to scan at 600dpi or higher so the pages move slowly and straight, but then you end up with a five-page, one-page document that's almost in Claim takes 10 MB.
