Failure shortly after a year.

Purchased October 2014 through Revain. It's December 2015 and my hard drive is failing. This drive was easy to install, but apparently they don't last all that long. After reading the reviews, I realized I'm not the only one that they didn't work for. The listing says it has a 3 year warranty so I'll check that out, but another reviewer said it is actually a refurbished drive and only has a 6 month warranty. Attention buyers, this hard drive can fail. So make sure you always have a backup of…

Saved my computer (and wallet) from the gray screen of death

I experienced the gray screen of death myself when my 2010 13" Macbook Pro recently decided it wasn't booting properly. It stayed stuck on a gray screen at startup with a spinning wheel that kept spinning. and spinning. and spinning. Booting into recovery mode found my hard drive was corrupt - awesome! I was concerned about the cost of the purchase of a brand new computer but then I thought why not try to fix it myself? I chose 3-5 days delivery, the package arrived in two days! Very impressed.

Saved my MacBook Pro

I can't comment on the durability of this product but I'm incredibly pleased with the performance and ease of installation of my MacBook Pro. I watched a video on how to do it yourself and swapped it out in less than 5 minutes. You will need a Philips 00 screwdriver (or a micro set from a dollar store and use the smallest screwdriver in the set). Keep an eye on the tiny screws and make a note of where the longer screw was removed so you can easily reattach the cover. Once installed, I just…

Almost perfect, but worth every penny!

Bought this replacement for my 2012 13" MacBook Pro when the original (see picture) started to fail with a SMART error message! Everything works fine for me. The only "" Hammer" and the reason it didn't get 5 stars was with the original HD (see image): There are two stabilization pins that go into two slots to prevent the platter from bouncing around inside the unit. I personally don't travel with a laptop so it wasn't a big deal but I can see that if someone has a lot of mobility there's a…

I saved $1400! Best in Internal Hard Drives

When my hard drive died, I was about to buy a new $1400 MacBook Pro. I can't believe this $30 drive worked well! The physical installation was very easy (thanks, ifixit.com!), but to be honest, the next few steps weren't. First, that doesn't mean you can just swap out the hard drive and get started right away. You need to use disk utility in recovery mode to partition the disk and create a subdisk (maybe not the right word) - found out by googling. Then my operating system was completely gone…

Right side, correct price

After much searching on the internet I have come to the conclusion that the HD in my daughter's 2 year old MacBook Pro needs to be replaced. It didn't turn on - just a white screen with a spinning color wheel. I got a new HD and after making sure it was the right part I went looking for instructions on how to re-download Lion to the new HD. I forgot exactly what steps to take - I did this about a month ago - but I had to use an 8GB flash drive to create a boot disk (flash drive) by partitioning

Cons
  • There are problems

You will find that the manufacturer of the hard disk (HD) you will receive is different and the speed is 5400 rpm. I'm only giving 4 stars because of the issues with installing the HD and OS: 1. Installing the hardware is relatively easy with the right tools, but be aware that this HD is thinner than the OEM HD that comes with was delivered to the MacBook. This doesn't affect whether the HD drive will install or work on a MacBook, but it can appear wrong, so don't be discouraged. Installing OS…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • There are defects

Great BLANK hard drive to replace the broken one in my old MacBook Pro. There is absolutely nothing on it, no operating system, no files, nothing else, so you need to install an operating system on it. There are no instructions for installation as it is hardware only but I think it is very simple and easy to replace. I also have experience disassembling and rebuilding computers, so I may be biased as well. However, for absolute newbies, simply remove the back of your MacBook Pro, locate the…
