A few days ago I woke up and found that my internet wasn't working. So I connected my device to LTE and got ready to go. When I got home, I went through the troubleshooting guide (everything lights up fine), connected to all the ports, and then tried to reconnect to Comcast through their website. When that didn't work, I called comcast and asked them to fix it. but no matter what they did, no restart signal was sent to the device. Looking at the router I could see that the connected ethernet…

Stop Renting Your Modem and Own It Like an Adult

Do you pay Comcast $10/month (or more) to rent a modem? If so, buy it and thank me in 6 months when it pays off. The junk your ISP rents to you is no better. How much do you think Comcast pays for a modem/router before they start charging you $120 a year? (Hint: roughly how much it costs) Let's say you're like the average person on an ever-expanding contract with your ISP. You've probably rented a modem for 5 years (60 billing cycles) and paid over $600 in rent! Since this is just a modem…

Great product and works great with Optimum Online

Enabled on the Optimum Network in Connecticut. That works great. Arris TM822 suggested replacing Optimum which now charges me a monthly fee. After disconnecting the TM822 and connecting this SB6183, the Optimum network was able to recognize this modem immediately. However, I have had bad experiences using Optimum technology to activate/register this modem. Optimum Tech claims this modem is DOA. (I don't think so. I bought this unit brand new from Revain.) I tried it myself the next day. (This…

So far so good with networking products

Ordered this 16x4 modem to replace an outdated Motorola SB6121 that recently needed a reboot. Our service through Comcast is only 60 Mbps, but the price difference between this modem and other 8x4 models was minimal. I have to say Comcast made it easy to install a new modem, at least in my area. I just plugged it in, waited for the registration page to open, received an SMS with a 6-digit code, entered the code and the service started working again after restarting the modem. It was not…

Good modem if you use Comcast

Great modem, I'm a bit glad my old one died. This modem replaced another Arris surfboard that was around 4-5 years old and was very reliable until its death. So I was looking for a new modem that would work with Comcast. This modem got me. I read the reviews and they were pretty good. When I got my new modem it was very easy to connect, as soon as I plugged in the modem everything started to happen. After confirming my new modem, I checked the connection and it was pretty good. The real…

Heats up and stops working properly after 1 year 5 months

Pros: Initially this product was great. In mid-2015, Comcast increased the speed for my service from 100 Mbps to 150 Mbps. When this happened and I rebooted, I ran various speed tests at different times and got around 170 Mbps, so I was happy to get some extra speed. Cons: I had this cable modem for about 1 year and 5 months before I started having problems. In early July 2016, the modem overheated and I lost my internet connection. I've tried unplugging the modem and plugging it back in 10…

Works fine - but has a terrible problem

If you look closely at modems, you'll quickly realize that the Arris Surfboard line of products is a win-win. The choice then depends on whether you get the SB6183 or the SB6141. Honestly, for $30 less and with speeds up to 343Mbps, the SB6141 should be an easy choice for 99% of people. But I chose the SB61483 for three reasons. Comcast lists the SB6141 in a way that I think will soon be considered obsolete, while the SB6183 is still very relevant. The SB6183 has 16 channels down compared to 8…
