Not exactly at all.

I read many times and then measured with a paddle and tape measure. The depth gauge was almost a foot off. I try to check the depth of my keel while in the water. It wasn't helpful.

So far so good for marine electronics

I took it to the lake the other day and enjoyed it. How could I tell if it was correct? Rschunimagu. The bathymetric map of this lake seems to be wrong. For example: The part of the lake on the maps is 5 feet long. Reality - 22 feet. Correct because my anchor was too short to anchor at 20 feet.

Misunderstood

Bought for ice fishing. I was very disappointed with the image in terms of reading depth. Tried it a few times and had to borrow a Marcum laptop to compare depth. Also a Vexlair flasher. I also had to use three different sonar units on several trips to realize the Hawkeye was far and wrong. Pretty disappointed

Works Great: Marine Electronics

I have a pontoon boat and fly a lot, the old way was an ounce head start on my line and a rough estimate. This unit is as smooth as it gets, when I'm in 27 or 96 feet of water it's worth the money. Ideal for fishing for Chronomide and also when using an intermediate or full dip line. And you can pack it in one of the pockets to store your snorkel or boat. I love it and it's the size of a flashlight.

Failed the first time.

When we bought our yacht it came with a handheld HawkEye sonar which the previous owners used for years on their round the world voyages. We used it our first year in the Bahamas and found it extremely useful for finding edge cuts and anchor points for our 6ft boat, but then we forgot to remove the batteries at the end of the season, they broke and ruined it. so we ordered this new one. We had to test it before leaving for the Caribbean because the moment we used it it crashed and only showed…

Horror at its best in marine electronics

I had a very reliable Marcum LX-i for many years until the display started to fog up. Since it was half the price of Marcum, I decided to try the HawkEye DT1H. The first time I used it on ice I drilled a few holes and fished in the spot before I knew it was going to be around 22-25 feet. The first hole showed approximately 19 feet and the second hole showed a whopping 68 feet. Remember these holes are only 4 feet apart. I went back to the first hole that used to be 19 feet and now it was over…

Good handheld fish finder for boats

Originally I had an earlier version of this handheld echo sounder. It took about 6 years and failed due to salt water penetration. This new model has a much improved water locking method and looks like it will last a lot longer. It's easy to use a simple slide switch to get water temperature/depth. However, it can be confusing which metric is displayed. If you see the temperature, dip in and try again, or vice versa. To get an accurate water temperature, the device must be immersed in water for
