I used this to completely restore the suspension on my '66 Mustang. I have external (external springs) spring clamps but this internal spring compressor worked fantastic. Add some lube to the bolt before tightening with an electric or pneumatic tool (much easier). I prefer NOW internal coil spring compression tools to external spring clips.

My car didn't have an engine when I changed the springs. I just used a screw and hook with a lower thread. I put a bolt in the top of the shock and secured the bottom hook by hand until I found a good spot. For added security, I used a chain by threading it through the center of the spring and down through the lower arm, then pulling out to hook it.
