HORRIBLE - DO NOT BUY

This product is terrible, do not buy. I bought this item because of its USB port and also because of its cheap price for my computer. Don't let these things tempt you into buying this item, it's not worth it. I have a very new laptop with all the requirements and Windows 2000. I brought it home and it was easy to set up and then tried to download the software but it failed. So I followed the instructions to try reloading the software and it still didn't work. Well, as if that wasn't enough, I…

Weird design but useful

I had a previous version of this device with quite useful Windows burning software. I don't use it that much anymore because I have a built in burner in my car now. There are several undocumented uses for this disk. Freecom, the Dutch company that makes the USB cable for this drive, has also released drivers for Mac OS 8.6-9.x, but for the magneto-optical drive. However, it still works, but unfortunately not on OS X. The drive itself is actually a Philips PCA460RW internal IDE drive in a…

Worked great for a while.

I bought this burner because I was looking for something inexpensive. I used it with my IBM iSeries ThinkPad. It took me ages to install and set up, but once I got it working it worked great for about a month and a half. Suddenly it stopped working, my computer kept freezing. piece of trash. Technical support is useless. I think you get what you pay for.

An excellent CD-RW is recommended. READ THE BOX

I am using this drive with Win 98SE on a Compaq Presario laptop. I chose this drive because of the USB connection. I got it very cheap and was only impressed with it and the Adaptec software that came with it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. If you read the box it says it's not compatible with Windows ME and will be compatible with Windows 95 if you have a USB port and that port comes with drivers. An earlier version of Win 95 did not support USB, later it did. Check your stuff. This is…

It works great with my ME windows!

I read all the reviews and decided not to order but told my friend to try because he has windows98. Everything worked for him. I took his software and installed it on my Compaq Presario laptop running Windows ME. The drive worked GREAT! I had no problems with cdrw or software. I found both cdrw and the software very easy to navigate. I don't understand all the bad reviews. It was as easy as plug and play to install and point and click to copy files or burn a CD. I had to give the CDRW back to…

Not very reliable/aging badly

Bought this new one a few years ago. Blanks helped for a while. Worked so-so for several years until now. Recently the lights started flashing constantly, making strange noises, the tray doesn't fully open/close and doesn't work at all. A bit hasty considering how many times I've used it.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Something different

Can write CD-Rs at double speed on Win98SE, CD-RWs are unreliable

I used a PCRW464K to write CD-Rs at double speed on Win98SE. I use it to back up my hard drive and burn Linux Mandrake ISOs. Writing to CD-RW discs is not reliable. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the purchased product because of its convenient USB interface.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Something is wrong
