Great customer support

I installed this on a new Mac Pro. Initially, the Mac operating system randomly turned off the device due to power saving settings that shut down external drives. Plugable was very quick to respond and even sent a replacement drive, although it turned out it wasn't the drive. There's no noticeable difference between the speed of this drive and the new Mac Pro's built-in SSD. Just make sure you fix the default OSX settings that prevent external drives from being used normally.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Frequency

Fast, portable and reliable external drive

I needed a fast portable drive that could be used with both new and old Mac laptops. With an old laptop (2013 model, High Sierra OS) I used a Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 hub with an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. Please note that a powered hub is required as the Thunderbolt adapter does not power the drive for this connection. Not the cheapest way but I needed speed, reliability and stability. The pluggable drive worked right out of the box. Since I only use Mac computers, I…

Cannot be used to start a virtual machine from

I decided to start a virtual machine from one of these drives because the computer I was using ran out of disk space. wanted to give a virtual machine. The main (real) machine I used is an HP ZBook Studio G5 laptop with an Intel Core i7-9850H (1 socket, 6 cores) 2.60 GHz, 32 GB RAM running Windows 10. I have a working VMWare -Station version 15 used. The guest VM had 2 sockets, 2 cores (4 CPUs total), 12GB RAM on Windows 10. I successfully ran an identical VM from a laptop hard drive and the…

Works as advertised - fast, doesn't overheat

I've been using this for a few months now on a 2019 15" Macbook Pro, just reading the reviews and want to share how happy I am with the ride. It works exactly as advertised, in my actual use it's about 30-50% faster than a USB 3.1 drive and I have a wide range of file sizes so not twice as fast in real use but still very noticeable overall I'm very happy with the Design and the reliability For those complaining about the non-detachable cable, well, that's where the reliability comes in. I've…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Negative experience

Compared to other Thunderbolt 3 drives, the 2TB pluggable external SSD provides cost-effective access to the high-speed Thunderbolt 3 bus. This product is inexpensive compared to other portable drives that only have USB-C connection but have 3-4X faster speed. (I've found my speeds aren't as fast as some other Thunderbolt portable drives, but certainly within the expected range.) My only concern is that the cable is built into the drive. So if you want to connect a longer cable (e.g. ), you're…

Max 2GB/s, 300GB in 3 minutes on Mac Book Pro (2015) - great!

Many people say that the cable must have a plug. Well, yes and no. Yes, BUT it should be noted that USB-C and Thunderbolt cables are DIFFERENT. Can you imagine how annoyed you would be if you plug a USB-C cable into your drive and computer and it doesn't work or run at USB speeds? C? The problem will be your fault if you switch from the included cable BUT you will still blame the company for the drive being bad. Yes, they had to make a cable that could be wrapped around the drive like I've seen

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Volume

UPDATE 2 - The replacement drive works great. After 3 days no problem.

Update 2: I received a replacement from Revain and am using it on the same MacBook Pros, Airs and iMacs as before. This is still a solid stone after 3 days of use. Difference day/day to the first. There are no failures at all. I first tested it on the included exFat, then on APFS and installed a boot system on it. Extremely fast read/write speed of 2700-2800MB/s. I'll post another update if it breaks again, but so far things are looking much better. Upgrade to 5 stars depending on replacement…
