Very fast external solid state drives

This is not a technical review but rather a provocation. I had a 512GB external hard drive (not SSD) that I used to back up my files. I started recording and editing videos, some of them in 4k, so my storage requirements skyrocketed. First impression - surprisingly small and very heavy for its size. Actually reassuringly firm. The second impression is very quick. My backup now takes much less time. Of course it would be easy to carry around, although mine stays in one place. Very happy with my…

Rocket. Brilliant

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the drive at first. The speed on the blue USB ports seemed to be capped at 380440MB/s and when I plugged it into the USB port it got even worse! 24MB/s. Then I plugged it into the red USB port. Red 3.1 Blue 3.0. Doo mannequin haha ahhhhhh. Yes, the 980MB/s red port is definitely a rocket. Heck, it was moving so fast it locked my RAID 0 SSDs (the Intel RAID controller was always finicky on my z170). Now on to why USB-C ports work at USB 2.0…

Works well with the Macbook Pro

Bought as I needed a quick backup for my Macbook Pro. I was running Time Machine backups on a NAS and wanted to add a full disk backup for emergencies. I use this disc with Super Duper. The speed of this thing is impressive. I'm getting over 1Gbps throughput by performing all writes. A complete disk mirroring including disk redundancy (512 GB disk at approx. 50% utilization) takes approx. 24 minutes. To say it's faster than my online Time Machine backups would be a gross understatement. I may…

Great drive and body!

I use this product to back up my photos, videos and as a Time Machine backup for my Mac. I love how small the drive is and how fast it can transfer. I also like the slim and refined body as well as its ability to keep heat to a minimum. The SSD here is a TLC NAND PCIe X4 NVME drive, so it's not as reliable as MLC NAND NVME drives, but these MLC drives are significantly more expensive than this one. This comes with a newer Phason 12 controller so is fairly new. Several other manufacturers have a

We'll go straight ahead at FUNNY SPEED!

Perfect for local Veeam backups and ad hoc file transfers, this drive is hands down the fastest external USB drive I've ever used. The attached video shows a folder with five large ISO and EXE files totaling 4.43GB being copied to the Rocket Pro in about 16 seconds at an average transfer rate of about 322MB/s. It comes with a USB 3.1 connector, so it's supposedly the fastest drive that can work, but even on USB 2/USB 1 systems, the drive's read speeds are excellent. The drive's machined…

Pros
  • SPEED - 10Gbps ultra high throughput, low latency and power efficiency. Ideal for techies, 4K content designers and engineers. With speeds of up to 1000 MB/s, data is copied and transferred in no time at all.
Cons
  • Can be damaged

SB-1TB-NVME is unstable due to constant USB controller resets and corruption in Debian Buster (Linux) via USB 3.0 ports (Raspberry Pi 4 both with and without powered USB 3.0 hub). With USB 2.0 you get less than 12MB/s but more stable on Linux. I've tried quirks/workarounds and a powered USB hub, but no luck with the current kernel and firmwares (July 2019). Works great on Windows 10 64-bit. The file transfer speed is 840 MB/s. I tested my Macbook for 60 seconds and had some issues which could…

Pros
  • Supports SMART and TRIM commands. Supports ONFi 2.3, ONFi 3.0, ONFi 3.2 and ONFi 4.0 interfaces. Improved wear leveling, bad block management, and redundant deployment.

Pros
  • SOLID ALUMINUM - 9mm thick advanced aluminum alloy body that improves the thermal conductivity of silicone. Contributes to better heat dissipation, which ensures the efficient operation of the adapter. The matt surface ensures a pleasant feel. CNC aluminum material, strong and durable. Please note that NVMe SSDs generate a lot of heat. This is the industry standard, and the aluminum body is designed to dissipate heat to the outside.
