Great ride but not worth it yet.

I built a new computer a few months ago, I have all the hardware I need and Blu-ray still gives me too many headaches. Do not get me wrong. The drive works great. However, as some have pointed out, this disc requires you to get hold of the software, which I think still falls short in consistency and ease of use. Some Blu-ray discs work fine; Many Blu-ray discs take far too long for Google to try and figure out how to get them to play. Who's to blame? Ironically, I would blame Sony. Their…

Great Blu-ray player at a reasonable price

I was blown away by the image when I connected my computer to a 32 inch 720p TV. Even at 720p, the picture is excellent. Even the upconversion from a regular DVD was impressive. I also have an HD DVD player and I think Blu-ray could be better. With a Geforce 8600GT 256MB I didn't experience any stuttering. If you don't want to spend $400 on a Blu-Ray player, this is a great alternative. The included PowerDVD BD software is nice and works great. If your computer is connected through a stereo…

Great Blu-ray Drive - Bad Software

Well, first of all, the Blu-ray drive is a quality product that works flawlessly and now offers excellent value for money. I have a 22" widescreen monitor capable of supporting and displaying HD quality and a decent quality graphics card (Nvidia 9400GT 1GB). I'm trying to make my computer a media center as much as possible, so it's no wonder I wanted a Blu-ray player for it. To everyone who bought this product and gave it a lower than usual rating because it can't play Blu-ray DVDs, especially…

Great product, somewhat complicated software.

It was pretty much plug and play. All you need is a very basic knowledge of how to open a computer tower and which cables go where, and you're in business. Install the software (which should come with it), it needs to be updated via internet. Every time you want to watch a Blu-ray, an internet connection is required to see if there are any updates for that movie. I haven't found a place to disable this feature. The software is a very basic version (upgradable) but it still works great. I…

Good player. For playing and backing up movies on your hard drive.

This player has been on my PC for 4 months now and it works perfectly. Most people who have problems with this drive don't really have problems with it, they have problems with underperforming processors or graphics cards. I'm currently using it with a mid-range quad-core processor - Radeon HD 4870. I've used it with VGA, DVI, and HDMI interfaces through my graphics card, and none of them gave me any problems. This product is intended for people who are familiar with personal computers and…

  • Special offer
Cons
  • A few things

Bluray players installed and working immediately. Plays OLD Bluray Discs Flawlessly - Beautiful HD and Sound! The critical issue is the software required to play the discs - it just doesn't play many NEW Bluray discs! Out of 3 Blu-ray discs, only 1 could be played! This is a notorious problem that renders your player virtually unusable without a manual solution:[.][.]Ironically, this software problem even exists for the HD-DVD version of this software. The problem occurs on all discs that…
